Anyways I was in line to get a 4door 06 civic i needed a car bad and that came up but I would have prefereed a 2 door. Its great on gas and its a really realiable car but now with the new dash gadge system, since its all electrical I wouldnt pick up the cell phone while driving. I did right after I purchased the car ( I did will never make that mistake, took it back right after 10 mins of drving it a bitch fight for them to take it back long story)
anways I picked up my cell phone and you know how you get that werid static beeping sound on cell phones when there's any electrical interferance around ( i dont know if you know what im talking about) but you get that trhough the radio you can hear an eco of your self in it and on your phone you hear the werid beeping sound.
I took the car right back and plus, theres no black interior avaliable its only gray and tan.
But good luck to you man I would go with the Si

Would love an Si but I have 1800 in negative equity my car is worth less than I owe in a year!!! hahaha kinda makes me laugh. my payments wouild be close or over $400 and I am not paying that much for a 22k car ya know? My next car will be a BMW so then I will get real performance and qualty.

I guess some of you can't read that well, I am doing this , mostly, so I can save on gas . The ss/sc eats gas like a V6.
Eats gas like a V6??!!?? Then explain to me why I'm getting 28MPG city. I don't call that eating gas. My last V6 got 18MPG city. Maybe if you'd learn to calm down and stay out of the pedal you'd get better mileage. Just b/c the SS/SC has all that power (and the wonderful sound) you don't have to use it.
Just keep telling yourself it was to save on gas. I'll keep enjoying my wonderful mileage, and smile every time I blow the doors off of a Civic.

LOL!
you cant afford a civic si... yet your next car will be a BMW... yet the price of a 325, one of bmw's more "affordable" cars... yet still $10,000 more than the civic SI, is STILL slower than the cobalt ss/sc.
Man you are seriously fucked up. Just face it for what it is. You bought a honda because you want a reliable grocery getter because you cant fork up the money for the gas/insurance of the ss/sc. Theres nothing negative about it, its fine, but just admit it. Stop trying to mask the downgrade in power for why you really are getting the car.
Yes the civics are beautiful cars, especially the new gen, but no model of the civic (other than si... and even then...) will be able to match the power you feel behind a cobalt ss/sc

yeah I know it saves gas and with gas prices thats killing me to I used to drive 100 miles everyday to work/school/home. I was using my LS and it was 10 a day and not I drive like 30miles a day in my ss/sc and its 10 a day. The cobalt doesnt really hold its vallue its only a good car if you plan on keeping it for 7 years untill its paid off. I would have gotten an Si if I could have or another scion tc for gas but i couldnt.

Maybe it is just me, but when I test drove the Civic I thought the interior was crap.

I granny drive the thing as much as I can. Stay out of the boost.
Once I'm off the line and moving... I shift at 2000 RPM.... and I use 5th gear as much as possible. If I need to drop to 3rd and wind it out to pass someone... I will... but once traffic is moving... toss it in 5th and leave it... this engine has enough power in overdrive to handle moving and hills in traffic.
if you're concerned about negative equity, why are you getting out when you're still upside down on it? yeah, you've lost some value, but if you wait, you'll be closer to the tipping point where you'll get more than you owe. seems like a waste, but maybe thats just me.
just a question though... can you explain anything at all attractive about the civic on either the inside or outside, besides fit and finish. that and the 07 camrys are two of the gawdawful ugliest cars new cars on the market right now. at least the civic doesn't look as pissed off. then again, if i wanted a two door minivan hood/windshielded squashed lump with an old school ion-ish headlight setup and a mixture of lumina-apv level dash stretch with a speedo out of a buick reatta conveniently placed way up high so i didn't realize it didn't match the the rest of the dash, i'd want a civic too.

As for the resale issue, the vote is not all the way in yet for the SS/SC. I will not dispute that the Hondas have great resale valve. I even think that the base model Cobalt will suffer in long term resale ( due to mass production not a slant to the 2.2 crowd) compared to a Honda. Your 1 year old Cobalt 2.0 is worth $ 14k because....ALL cars take a **** kicking in depreciation in the first year (even Hondas). It is marketed to a niche market that would prefer to buy new (being a recently introduced model), and lastly with the GM incentives that have been offered lately on an 06 , it would be almost the same carrying price as buying a gently used 05 which would be financed at full market rate. Comparing the resale value of a 4 year old higher end vehicle to the resale value of a one year old entry level car (in GM) seem like apples and oranges.
Not trying to sound like a ***** but if you think a little more long term with inflation.... when a new 2009 Cobalt SS/SC (or Turbo for you hopefulls
That and gasoline engines suffer from torque loss as they get older....WHERE YOU START HAS A LOT TO DO WITH WHERE YOU END UP Honda/Chevy ??? hmmmm
All in fun and not meant you insult you. Good luck with your new car, I mean that !
Steve.

why is everyone having such major issues with this car. the only 'major' issue I had was with my sun roof rail and that was fixed and nothing has happened since. Let us all take this thread as a reminder that we need to learn to take better car of our car inside and out. This includes treating the car with at least a spoonful of respect cus after all it looks better on the road rather than on a rack getting probed.
My wife has a '06 LT Sport that she has been driving for 9 months and guess what, not one single problem at all. Of course there is no way we would have gotten an '05, because no matter how much I like a vehicle, I never buy first year products. In fact, if she had not liked it so much, I would have wanted to wait till 3rd or 4th year after the first refresh.
Pretty much why I'm getting an '08 SS/SC the day after I get back from Iraq next year.
And if your not driving a Chevy (or at least GM), you ain't ****.

I think you are hitting the nail on the head. It's all about how you take care of your car. Beating the living daylights out of it will decrease reliability and so on. As for me, I have had no problems at all. Granted I haven't had the car long. I also have averaged 28mpg with my SS/SC. It's not hard. Just don't drive like a ******* all the time. Sure I have fun with it but in small doses.
Anyway, I don't think the thread starter every belonged here in the first place. He of course has to bash the car on his way out and then bash us by saying he is too old to be driving a car like this. I guess at 25 I am too old then. You know what? I don't give a damn! Unlike the thread starter I could have bought a BMW this time around but I'm just not that much of a pompus ******* yet to go buy one. I also would like to think that I like to express myself a little more then what a BMW does. They all look the same and say the same thing. "hey look at me, I think I am better then you eventhough I am not, but I am trying to make you think I have money because the average person doesn't know a BMW can be had for 30k." Really that's what they are all about. Yeah people will see I bought a chevy and know I didn't pay much, but that's fine. I didn't buy the car for them.
