Don't get me wrong, the ss/sc is a fun car and I know I will be getting a slower car but as soon as I sat inside it just felt like a nicer, more durable car. life of the car and gas mileage is the main reason. I put on a lot of miles for work and I have to let you in on a little secret, Hondas hold there value just a little bit better than a chevy cava...cobalt.
things that went wrong: top of the shift knob broke 2 times, getting replaced on monday again, the trim around the monroof buttin broke 3 times, the trim aroud the window buttons chipped and the leather pulled from other and the fact that the interior is made from a hard plastic, I have scratches from my shoes that won't come off unlike the civic that has a soft leather-like material.. Don't get me wrong I won't bash the cobalt's but if The new Si was out when I was considering this car, I would own an Si now after just testing the ex. I am 26 years old I don't need a car that sounds like an 18 year old driving it I need something built better ( fit and finish wise. )

Civic Owners complain about the easily scratched interiors too, so be warned. Make sure your civic has a 1 or a J vin designation. If it came from the alliston plant in canada, you're likely to have Quality issues. That would have a 2 vin designation.

Civics have an incredible resale value for economy cars. friend of mine has owned his '98 civic ex coupe for 8 years now and it's still worth 4-5k. a cobalt owner will be lucky to get 1-2k the year it's paid off.

And we have several issues with the cobalt interior that needs fixing in our LS, and neither my wife or I trash on it. The car's interior just needs better materials.

However you're paying more for the civic because you can't wheel and deal on them, that's the downside to the Civics, they're almost not worth the price Honda wants for them to begin with. The dash is ugly as hell, and that electronic speedo is going to have problems a few years down the road, and I can gaurantee it will be an extremely expensive fix. Those digital dashboards have ALWAYS had problems, that's why they aren't standard equipment now, because they're just not as reliable as the old analog gauges. Honda made a bad choice going that route, they had to know it would be less reliable. The sloping Hood, the huge A-pillars, the non-standard dashboard layout, etc, will all play a part in seeing this new generation of civics not doing nearly as well as the older ones. In fact, IMO, Honda hasn't made a super reliable civic since the 98-00 model year, as the 01+ years also had lots of QC problems... But there's no denying 35mpg in city and 45mpg on the highway if you baby it. (civic owners routinely report BETTER than EPA estimated gas mileage.)

The fact that the civic isn't as well done anymore doesn't really matter, since the perception is that they just do it better, they will always have better resale values than american cars. It's all about perception and not a whole lot about truth at this point and time.

Sure I have fun with it but in small doses.

Anyway, I don't think the thread starter every belonged here in the first place. He of course has to bash the car on his way out and then bash us by saying he is too old to be driving a car like this. I guess at 25 I am too old then. You know what? I don't give a damn! Unlike the thread starter I could have bought a BMW this time around but I'm just not that much of a pompus ******* yet to go buy one. I also would like to think that I like to express myself a little more then what a BMW does. They all look the same and say the same thing. "hey look at me, I think I am better then you eventhough I am not, but I am trying to make you think I have money because the average person doesn't know a BMW can be had for 30k." Really that's what they are all about. Yeah people will see I bought a chevy and know I didn't pay much, but that's fine. I didn't buy the car for them.
damn dude you hit it better than I did I believe the guys jumping ship getting into different cars then bashing on the way out didn't have the cash to own the car in the first place and are just trying to save face. Unless they buy something of equal or higher value or admit defeat of finances, they have no room to talk of any type of comparison.

http://www.8thgencivic.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=10592 --->Civic LX & SI owners who are NOT impressed with the cheap materials used on the interior of the vehicle and complain of easy scratching. :P

But seriously, good luck. Guess everyone needs to be sensible sometime (at least for a little while anyway).

lol just lol your comparing a 1.8 to a 2.0 s/ced, thats like toyota yaris to mustang lol 2.0 gets pretty good gas granny shift it, my friend has a 2.0 and i got the 2.2 LS myself... whats so good about a civic? well heres whats wrong with it!, 1. higher compression means more money at the pump, 2. makes less power then the 2.2, and 3. its a honda at least go si so u can run with a 2.0 and not get smoked to bad... lol w00t!!!! cobalt=import killer!!!!

Actually apparently Honda did not compensate for demand, there were a ton of people left out in the cold with the new Civics. Wait times are 3-6 months for an SI, and about the same for an EX with Navi. Though I have a feeling Honda is doing this on purpose to help create an artificial demand for the vehicle so they can get full price for them (which is rather expensive IMO.)

Though I'll admit, I don't think they are going to sell as well long term because of the weird design scheme they went with.

You can't even really compare a cobalt's mileage to the civic's though. 40-45 MPG highway is just damned hard to beat by anything but a hybrid.

That's a completely ludicrous and uninformed statement.

Although the ss/sc is a very fun car to drive I drive the ex civic and was very impressed keeping in mind I owned a 2000 si previously. bottom line i think I am going to to get the ex civc I drive a lot for work and for the amount of miles i drive the resale will be much much much much better on this car and I am sick of driving to my chevy dealer to get little **** fixed to the cheap plastic interior. Also it sdeos so much better on fuel as well as I don't have to put premium in the damn thing. It has been fun and I appreciate the advice some of you have given but I think I have had it with Chevy...... Peace I 'm out

I traded in my '01 Civic for the same reasons you are trading in your Cobalt. Little things kept breaking. Then, the warranty ran out on it and more stuff kept breaking. I had had enough, and I WILL NEVER buy a Hondah again.

you are always gonna have problems with anything. i dont think there is something good that hasnt had a problem yet. ive had to return my ipod like 4 times in the first 6 months of owning it. but i still love it. i had to send my 360 in after a couple months too but its still amazing.

you only hear about the bad things so it seems like theres alot.
