GRRR SOME A$$ Hole DOOR DINGED MY CAR*UpDate*

Update*
Well i just went to the collision shop down the street and got a quote of $395 to fix it... As far as that they can go get fuxked. I'll slid it sideways into a tree and just pay the $500 and get all NEW quarter panels.. I like how he gave me %10 off to because i live close... what a moron.

SO i go into IHOP and get outside jump in and when my girlfriend was getting into the car she noticed it.. I went balistic sence this is my first new car and ive only had it for like 3 months... and of course they don't have security camera's. I'll take a picture in the morning... right above the passenger rear wheel.... I drove around the parking lot looking for a blueish truck sence it looks like blue paint on my red car...

that sucks dude. Tis why I don't park near ANYONE unless it's one of my boys. There's only one car that I park near at work and my job is fenced in with a guard shack to drive passed and cameras everywhere. lol..Oh yeah, and I take up two spots.

I usually park far enough away from a place. Reason being, too many fat people kick the door wide open to get out and are too lazy to walk.

I learned that the hard way with my last car. Not this time though, no sireee bob!

Same thing happened to me in the same place. I had the dealer take care of it while they replaced my bumper. They had Dent Doctor or someone come in and take care of it, cost me about $100 and looks like new.

People are so inconsiderate .... Even if you do park far away there is always some idiot who feels they have to park next to you...

That's why I always park waaaaaay out in BFE... and always have a curb on one side. I'd rather walk a mile than risk a door ding.

OUCH! Is the paint scratched off? If not check into paintless dent removal as those guys work wonders with metal without hurting the paint. If the scratch marks are only on your paint they can be buffed off meaning no painting needed.

Good Luck!

Without seeing it in person, I would say that at least 90% of that will buff out. Look in your yellow pages for an auto detailer that does buffing. The cost would be low as well, I would charge less than $50 to remove that.

Is there a dent or is it just a mark?? PDR is also a good option if there is a dent, they can remove the dent so that you will hardly see it and no one else will ever notice.

If you do choose to replace the panel and have it painted just remember that factory paint job is there best there is, so think long and hard before getting it painted.

All the color will buff out but the white scratches look like they are dug into the basecoat. The rule of thumb is if you can feel it with your fingernail its most likely going to need to be painted.

PDR is always a good alternative to conventional repair but i wouldnt recomend having the whole quarter panel replaced for a small ding like that. Changing the quarter panel most likely will make you less happy in the end.

Changing sheet metal affects a lot of things on a car depending on the skill of the bodyman doing it. One big thing that is any bodymans curse however is rust protection.

When we take off any panel on a car it is absolutely impossible for us to duplicate OEM rust protection. All cars are dipped into whats called E coat(or something similar) AFTER being welded. We also use E coat but we put it on underneat with an areosol and THEN weld. So any E coat around that weld gets vaporised in the process. Any insurance work that is done by most shops is guaranteed for life. Now i'm not saying that quarter panel will rust in 6 months, but it wont last as long on the seams as a undisturbed OEM quarter panel will.

It would be much less invasive to get a PDR for the dent and repaint the panel than changing the whole thing. And as long as the body shop is using a quality paint like like Santdox, sherman-williams or sikkens that should also be warranted for life. And a quality paint job by far exceeds OEM standards if done right.

And as far as matching color goes that also isnt a problem. All that would be required is for the repair shop to include blending into your door to make the repair invisible. As long as they remove anything attached to the door such as your door handle, belt molding, body side moulding, emblem etc. (anything that will come in contact with the painted surface)

Blending is a process where the whole panel is sanded down and is used to "feather" the paint into the panel. It is then cleared over to make up for any ever so slight difference in color. Its the perfect way to fool the eye and makes an invisible repair.

A lot of people are also freaked out as far as bondo is concerned. The reason being that ever since bondo (thats a brand name btw, its actually called body filler) was introduced EVERYONE decided that they could be a bodyman. And unfortunatly is has over the year deteriorated the reputation of many professionals. A real bodyman does use bondo, but in very small quantities. The dent is first pulled out to about 95% perfection. After that we use body filler to make it absolutely perfectly straight. Before bondo was introduced they used a process called leading. Way back when cars had a lot more metal on them, it was pulled out and then they melted lead onto the surface and shaped that instead of bondo. The reason lead is no longer used is because it was a much slower process and also because metal is a lot thinner these days so it cannot handle the heat required to melt the lead without warping the panel.

Anyways, thats my opinion. If you wanna see some real bodywork check out this thread about the balt i'm currently fixing for myself. ;-)

I still think you can buff it so at least the edges of the deepest scratches will be rounded off and therefore it wont catch light in the sun and you will struggle to see it.

Too bad it is usually not covered by any insurance. I always park at the end of a row and with my nose into the wind.
