GTI vs 2.2ls
GTI vs 2.2ls
ok so my brother owns a 2001 VW GTI VR6 5speed. it is 100% straight piped and he has a better than stock air filter. ive raced him before but i used to drive a GMC sonoma ext cab 4.3vortec. he smoked the **** outta that truck and we started that race by me just going and him reacting to me. i own a 2.2ls now with mods in sig. i have a buddy at work who thinks that generation of GTI's are slow, but im not sure what the outcome will be. Thoughts anyone. stock tires on my car still btw.
-Turbo compressor
- Multi-point injection fuel system
- Power: SAE and 110 kW , 150 HP @ 5,700 rpm; 155 ft lb , 210 Nm @ 1,750 rpm
on paper looks pretty close, since you're probably pushing 160-170 or so?

that gen gti has 180hp not 150 and the turbo one will smoke a 2.2. He has the vr6 though, which has a v6 (maybe inline 6? its a 6 either way) and i beleive about 200hp.
was lookin at the gains from just stock listed hp on an ls, just my guess, if he had some sweet decals i would say over 180
yes ive been in his car many times and hell it is fast. hits 140 with ease, vr6 is not inline, it is just a different angle than the 45 angle of just a V-6. also another attribute im leaning on is age. yes age, his car has been put through the ropes, he drives like a crazy man in other words. totaled it 3 times at that
. and has a god awful amount of mileage compared to my 14500. as HP rating i used a gtech pro for like 5 runs and it came up with 126whp all 5 times when i was stock. add CAI and Exhuast. which is prolly not much but i can tell you that i can feel the difference with those two on there. i have no clue which way this race will go but im pretty optimistic about it, i have raed once before when i was stock. me vs a 2000 civic DX 5speed with cat-back/CAI, beat him by literally 4-5 car lengths.realize that the 07's stock are the fastest, or am i wrong in this way of thinking?

lol im telling you... your only making about 115 to the wheels and about 143-145 to the flywheel... its only like 2-3 hp more than the 06 because of the ss/sc header... but its rated the same
problem solved lol btw sorry for soundin like a jerk lol im in a bad mood

but you did say its only 2-3 more than the 06 sooooooo im gonna have to say the 07's are faster than the 06's. hehe. anyhow i have also heard the tuning is different in the cars. 07's being better in that regard, true or false?
false.. neither car has tuning... lol... if one car will be supported so will the other.. they are working on the 06s though at the moment.. ( i have sent in my info...) but as far as one being faster than the 06s its not true lol a few more flywheel dont mean crap lol

most v6 engines use a block angle between 60 and 90 degrees. vw built the vr6 at a 30 degree angle for packaging, the motor is very narrow, not much wider than a 4 cyl, and not that much longer. its quite a nice design for vw as it easily dropped into the cars they had previously built for 4 cyls. it also saves on parts cost as you have one head with 2 cams (instead of 2 heads with 4 cams), i head gasket, ect. however like everything newer and vw its a bitch to work ok, ie the timing chain, its at the back of the motor, you need to pull the tranny out to change it (needs doing at 200k km).
