i just heard a while back that the 07 from the factory is tuned a bit more than the 05-06's but its alll word of mouf. itd be nice to get someone involved with chevy or someone with extensive knowledge of this car to clue us in, but now that this has gotten way off subject, whats the opinions on the race. im gonna have to say i think that i will probably lose, i feel that the cobalts power diminishes a bit too early, the GTI will carry on 70-90 much faster.

i just did some digging and the design of the vr6 motor is very interesting. Very stupid really, as far as strength goes, but very interesting. It does actually have two cylinder banks, but they are close enough together to use a single head which is ******* weird. it's pretty pointless to not just use an inline design in this situation really...

that is true but if two cars were 100% same hp and trq there would still be a winner, even if the drivers did perfect, all cars are not the same. and there are sooo many variables in racing.

hmm i know my bro has raced a beamer, not sure on the year i think 1998. 3 sumthin series not really sure. but that beamer ran a 15.3 at the track at its best and my bro losttwice to him. that was a while ago tho.im assuming my brothers car, in the condition the motor is is prolly runnin around a 15.5. and if thats the case, im positive that i lose..

i could care less about whp i had a 4.3 sonoma with 190 whp and my car feels way faster than the sonoma ever was, you cant say your 125whp willl no matter what lose to the gtis 155whp(dunno if thats the right whp jus an examp) what about vehicle weight, i wont base it on hp.

the vr6 has more low end trq than ur balt,so from dig or 40 roll he will pull u..has more hp to take u 80+ on highway, and is prolly 300lbs heavyier than ur balt...also has longer gear ratios than u do

^^well said and true.. im just saying... depending on the hp of the other car.. there is soo much that goes into a race... (driver, car, weather, road conditions, ect....) i mean you have to think about it all to decide...

that's because your sonoma probably weight in a solid 1k lb's heavier than your cobalt. at least. this vr6 is gonna own you. end of story.

lol i havent said once that ima win, im almost positive ima get owned. but the history of the car hasnt been a good one, he is always over on oil changes..hes on 8k from his last change on full syn...mmk ive decided the way that ill win is if his motor blows up. lol ill let you guys know how it goes, he is gonna change his oil first then well do it.

btw sonoma weighed in at 3800+ so your right haha.

no matter of the upkeep of the car, the vr6 has 25% more hp than you, more torue, a less power robbing manual trans. so enough speculating, get out there and let us know how much you lost by.

the guy wasnt racing you then. ive driven quite a few stock ecotec j-bodies and they are no faster or slower than a balt. ive driven several vr6 v dubs, i can say that the vr6 is faster, by a bunch. a 145hp sutomatic isnt going to beat a 200hp 5 speed, not by a long shot.

sorry hate to say it but i really did out run him.. maybe somethin was arong with his car but i would think he would have told me that after i bet him.. and to be honest i always thought anythin with a 5 speed and same motor as an auto would be faster but i've smoked other 2.2 balts with a 5 speed by a pretty good bit.. maybe my car is some kinda freak accident that has a lil more power than its suppose.. i've even beat trucks with 350's and 327's without a problem. and one with a 454..

small block trucks arent fast, the 454 pickups are torque monsters for towing. your car may be a factory freak, but it doesnt have an extra 50hp. and a vr6 will rape you, the 2.4l balt is a little more fitting for a vr6. either the guy didnt actualy have a vr6 or wasnt trying, cause there is no way you would have beat him.

but then again, mabey im wrong cause cobalts seem to kill gto's all the time on this board
