HELP!!! Cobalt SS S/C

I would like to know if their are any major changes in the 05, 06, 07 models. I want to get the best deal possible and am thinking about some 05 leftovers if their are any still. Soon there will be 06 leftovers, but is it worth the wait? Are there any rebates from Chevy or deals like 0% APR that are gonna be available soon (inside info...)? My parents have a GM card and I know that they offer special deals like 0% APR or matching your GM points up to $2000 but they are all over now. Thanks for the INFO

I haven't seen anything officially on the '06 cars, but I would expect all the mechanical bits to be the same. Onstar may be standard (I think it is on the Corvette Z06 come 2007). The 2.0L ECOTEC Supercharged should still be there. I think 2008 is the soonest that GM could change something in the drivetrain. The Solstice's 2.0L DI Turbo won't fit in our cars, as the engine is transversley mounted, meaning the turbo would rest partly inside the firewall. GM would have to re-work this turbo engine to fit it in the car.

As far as the 05-06 cars, not much changed. Arrival Blue was replaced by Laser Blue. The SS badges on the doors moved from the middle of the door to the bottom. They have fixed some of the bugs. I have had no idle probles, sunroof trim button problem, or any problem yet to date to be honest. I had seen some eraly '06 cars with those dumb plastic inserts on the inside of the trunk lid (used to change tail-lamp bulbs) that kept falling out when you open it, but mine must be new pieces, because they are in there solid.

I have heard that you can now order '06 cars with polished aluminum wheels for no extra charge, and that in Canada you can now order an '06 SS/SC in Ultra Silver, which was previously unavailable.

As far as rebates or financing or lease rates, I have no clue. If you need to save money, my advice is to wait until the '07 are out, and pick up an '06 car. Dealers will be more likely to deal (need to get rid of them) and you may get some more discounts from GM.

I've heard of more people having problems with 05's, but that could just be due to the fact that they've had them longer.

Anyone know if the polished and gunmetal wheels are made of the same material? I've been thinking about polishing up my gunmetal wheels because the polished looks a lot better, IMO.

Thay are both aluminum wheels. The gunmetals are painted and sealed. The polished ones are polished then clearcoated. I would imagine a shop could refinish them for you and clearcoat them. I doubt that would be cheap though!

Actually, I can get it done for a little self labor, and price of materials... That'll probably be the next thing I do, besides maybe stage II before then.

Whats the difference between the painted, cast-aluminum and high-polished aluminum rims? Which would look better on a black Cobalt?
Also if anyone has anything to add about insurance prices compared to a 2.2 or 2.4 Cobalt...
But PLEASE try to stay on topic as much as you can because I really need as much help as I can with my prices issue

Sorry for going off topic... Biggest factor for insurance is going to be that you have a coupe, or a sedan. IIRC when I ran the stock 2.2 coupe, the insurance was only a little bit cheaper than the 2.0 coupe. But the sedan was significantly cheaper. (I opted for the 2.0 anyway, of course ).

IMO black cars look great with shiny rims, it really offsets the car. I've never really liked the black on black look, gunmetal is okay, I guess.

Good luck getting a new 06 when the 07's are out. when i was working out the deals getting my 2.4 traded for the 2.0, the closest black one was 5 hours away. and the closest yellow one was over 15 hours away(another province). I went to EVERY chev dealership website in the city about 2 weeks ago there were only about 3 for sale in the entire city(at least from chev dealerships). I checked a couple pontiac, buick ect.. as well but anyways they are rare in Canada, maybe its different in the states but here in Alberta there sure arnt a lot. It could have been the timing though, because i know my dealership had 2 coming in, but they are one of the largest here and they only had 2 SS/SC coming in. I think there too close to production of the 07's to continue making/bringing in the 06's. But again it could have just been bad timing and probably that the SS/SC is not very popular here. but the base Cobalts are everywhere!!!! sedans and coupes. Makes me feel special to have a SS/SC Sometimes i hump it when no ones looking.

Do you know if the 2 they're getting have the G85 package because mine needs to have that. That might be pretty rare, but I also want them it in black so it may be hard. Anyway, when my parents got their Caveliers, they didn't have them both on lot. That was in 2000 and 2003. As long as they find one for me

Yes both of them had the G85. One was yellow and the other was black. They probably have them in by now or next week. They had another that was orange but i think they sold it.
