Talking Hi! I'm new and looking at a 06 Cobalt SS/SC

Hey there!

My name is Jason and I just graduated from college and landed a job in Cleveland. Definitely time for a good daily driver and my two top picks were a 2001 Contour SVT or a 2006 Cobalt SS/SC. Fully loaded, of course.

I went out to the Chevy dealership and looked at a few. I love the seats with the embroidered SS logo and the two tone black/exterior color.

I just had a few questions for I take the plunge...

Has anyone had any kind of reliability issues? Premium fuel only, right? I hadn't planned on modifying it, but I've had the speed bug in me for years so I was thinking about it. Maybe just simple stuff that I can remove if I need to in case I need warranty work. CAI, pulley... etc.

Another question is, how much should I expect to pay for one that has the airbags and the performance package (limit slip diff, etc)? How much have some of the owners here paid?

Thanks!! I hope to get one soon!

I'm sorry I should elaborate. XM would be a good thing but Onstar isn't necessary.

I ordered my 06' SS/sc with G85 and the sunroof only. It took 2 months to get the car and i paid 23,400. It was worth the wait.

You have to get the SS!! You can find one for 23,000 to 24,000. Then you will defiantly have the speed bug and modify!!!

Welcome to the site

I'm sure you have a lot of questions. We have a lot of threads on problems/issues we have encountered in the problems and service forum. A quick search should give you what you want to know. If you have any additional questions, let us know.

I have had my cobalt ss/sc since Aug 05 and had vary few minor problems. A p0171 code that can on when I did the air box mod is it was my fault. I put the old filter back in and still got DHC. Took to dealer and then installed a new filter and it fixed it. Since then I have had no problems at all with the car. It has about 18000 miles on it so far. The car has a lot of power but still gets 30 to 37 mpg highway and 15 to 20 + in town.

I run exclusively premium fuel from Chevron. Not really needed but it works best with my car.

I hadn't planned on modifying it, but I've had the speed bug in me for years so I was thinking about it. Maybe just simple stuff that I can remove if I need to in case I need warranty work. CAI, pulley... etc. There is a lot of stuff coming out for this car. I have heard roomers of a stage 4 package that will net around 380 something.

I paid 21390 for it and it is no g85. I wish I did get it but then again I do not auto x so it really dose not affect me that much. Just when pushing it out of a corner I will get wheel spin.
