How much power?

so i bought my cobalt ss from this guy about a year ago, guy told me it made 315whp and since it was my first actual fast car, i believed him, but now im starting to doubt it, the motor is completely stock, all its got is an injen intake and intercooler piping and a superchips chip, at full boost it makes around 135kpa or 19psi and it no longer seems possible to me that the car makes 315 whp at 19 psi on the stock motor, can someone tell me if that number is realistic?

doubt it. more like 280 to 300 whp. but without dynoing you will just guess.

GMS1 puts peak boost at 20 psi and they say 280 whp 320 wtq.

yeah i figured it was a bit much for such low boost i highly doubt the stock turbo can make 315 wheel, from what ive seen online a superchip only adds about 20 whp so i got a bit suspicious

i mean a dyno can be made to read anything if you really want it to. your best bet is to take everything off, get a stock reading at your favorite dyno place. then mod your car and see what your gains are.

a lot of people get hung up on numbers but they mean little if you haven't had a baseline.

I would guess it to be closer to 275whp. The biggest power gainer can be an aftermarket downpipe that's larger diameter. I have never had much luck with chips. Like leemanfor said every dyno can give you different numbers. With factory intake mod, drop in filter, good downpipe and the mods you already have, with a good hp tuners tune, you can get that 315whp. On e47 or e85 a factory turbo car can register as high as 340-350whp all out depending on what dyno it is.

..

When I first started playing with my Cobalt I used a Suprerchips tuner. It really wasnt too bad. It really woke the car up, and I never had any problems. Then I went with Trifecta before I finally went to HP Tuners (best). Live and learn, wish I could have done it right the first time and had all that money still!

oh boy lol. im making 357whp and 375wtq on e47 (22psi), stock turbo and stock motor......plenty of other making these kinds of numbers and on 93 youll see 320-330whp and 350-370wtq depending on tune

Also depending on the dyno. Can't really ever tell for sure which is right.

my car still has the full factory exhaust, runs 91 octane gas and only has an injen intake and intercooler piping and the superchip, unless the dyno it was on was giving overly high numbers i doubt my car made 315 wheel with such little mods

I thought the GMS1 numbers were crank numbers, no?

Yes I believe they were motor hp and torque. Btw 91 octane isn't great for making power.

Nope, they rated whp. Same with the stock power of 260hp was whp.

Yup, and not that it means jack or **** since every dyno is different. Just looking at the dyno results thread stock and GMS1 vary from 240 to 277whp with the kit rating from CED at 280 for the Cobalt

Isn't that rating what gm said the kit was rated at? I wanna say there was a bulletin or something at one time explaining the kits on different cars.

Are you guys sure of that? I purchased the gms kit and I'm almost positive that it was motor hp. I will look for the details again.
When I purchased my car back in 12 the propaganda I read said they were 260hp from the factory, not 260whp. I don't think gm ever rated their cars at whp. Just crank

Looking at the dyno threads unless the driveline is super efficient I don't think it's crank (it would be less than an 8% driveline loss)

I believe GM rates them in engine HP not whp. but dyno's all around the country put them between advertised WHP.

for instance. Stock I put down 269 whp 265 wtq on a dynojet.

I do think there is very little driveline loss. That f35 can't put a whole lot of drag on the motor. I always figured 9-10% loss. My Nova has like 20% with that turbo 400.
My old 94 Z28 was an auto and it only dyno'd like 280whp and it was tuned and had several bolt on's on the car. The older auto trans cars got killed by those transmissions.
