I fixed my Honda Civic!!
Hello everyone,
I'm sure the title of this thread has everyone ready to flame me, but read on......
My late '90's Honda Civic started to give me some trouble when the temps here fell into the single digits. My "fix" was simple.....sell it and buy a COBALT !!!!!
I am now the proud ownder of a 2006 victory red Cobalt LS sedan, 5-speed. I pick the car up tomorrow.
The test drive is what sold me on the car. Although the car is no rocket, it is quick enough for the general use that it will receive between my wife and I. The handling was very nice, noise levels were very low, and the fit/finish is definately nice. Overall, the whole package is much better than I would have thought for a base compact car.
I've been a loyal Chevy/GM owner all my life (with the exception of 3 bad run-ins with Hondas) and I am so glad that GM has put forth some high effort in the design of this car. I'm sure that if they extend this effort throughout the rest of their products their bottom line will definately improve.
Glad I found this site.....I'm sure that I'll be hanging here with more questions as well as contributions

The LS sedan comes with the 5-speed manual transmission as standard. The automatic is a $850 (IIRC) option.
But I have to say, it was VERY dissappointing to see that most of the dealers in this market have 99% of their cars sitting on the lots as automatics (and this INCLUDED the SS Cobalts!!). Now go to a Honda dealership, and its an even split manual to automatics. I actually had to go out of this market to find a sedan LS with a manual shift. Lots of automatic trans Cobalts sitting on the lots here in Chicago, so watch the discounts to continue for awhile yet.
IMO, add this to the list of reasons why the Genral's cars sit on the dealers lots while their customers go check out the foreign competition. GM corporate and the dealerships seem to be at odds.....so the rebates continue and the red ink flows.........

Glad you found what you were looking for and welcome to the site!
I bought my base coupe at the beginning of last year, out of the 50-60 cobalt coupes i looked at, only 1 of them was a 5 speed, and no dealers within 200 miles had one in a 5 speed, so I had to get the victory red one, which I did not want
But I love her anyway
Well, I had given some serious consideration to letting a Mack truck flatten it, but one of my best friends is my insurance agent! LOL
Thanks for letting me stick around the site, even though I let the Civic survive.
I did pick up my Cobalt today. What a sweet and fun ride! That 5 speed was sure worth the hunt and the 260 mile round trip to get! Oh, and first mod has been completed.....I took the dealership decal off of the deck lid! Tomorrow, more debadging begins!
