Question i guess it's time to de-"race car" the SS

first off, it has 142k miles on it. daily driven and soon to be daily driven a lot more than normal. i'm going to be in school for 5 years, probably more, starting this fall or early next year. i have gone to school and worked before with the 2 cars i've owned before and it will be putting over 120 miles every dday that i go to school and work. i need to get rid of some of these high performance mods that i have (maybe even save up for a backup engine/trans) and i was wondering if anyone has any advice for me b/c i was also told today that it would be nearly impossible to trade the car in and get out of debt.

Might be easier to just drive it until the engine dies, then just put another engine in it. 146K on a Cobalt SS is something that pretty much nobody is going to pay what you want for.

The engine/trans should be good until at least 200K (You may need to redo the clutch though)... so I'd say you have plenty of time to stow some money away for a replacement LSJ.

well it wasn't gas mileage that i was worrying about (still gets about 28mpg average, 40+ on "good days"). right now it has a tune that pegs the boost gauge out at 20psi. that will eventually kill the reliability on any car. the clutch was replaced at around 88k so hopefully that will hold out til i can save for an a/m.

any close estimate someone could give on how much a replacement eng/trans might run me?

I just bought an LSJ on ebay for $2k with 16k miles. I have seen them range from 2k to 3.5k without trans. Those all included the SC as well.
