Insurance/Accident question
Insurance/Accident question
Hi...I've only posted a few times. I have a pretty much loaded 06 2 door silver SS....so anyways yesterday..So question...our weather was HORRIBLE
(I'm in CT) and going to work, I went off the road and just skidded a guard rail, but nothing else. I'm fine, but my car was not--Apparently I need a new bumper, a new mirror, and a runner (that piece under my drivers side door). My car is running fine and there doesn't seem to be any damage under the car. Obviously I am at fault (wasn't issued a ticket). I already got a few estimates on the damage and I am going with the lowest which was 2100--Now, I'm just waiting for the claims adjustor to call. My deductible is at 250 so I'm not worried about that. Any idea about rates or anything, how they will change?? I'm so worried!!!
Thanks!!

Gotta talk to your insurance company, depends on the company, your driving record, your age, etc, etc. Some have accident forgiveness or free passes or whatever you call it if you have a 100% clean record. Sometimes those only apply if you're above a certain age.
Bottom line, what D4 said, talk to your agent and ask them about it. Also, the lowest estimate isn't always the best. Find out about whatever company you go with, what their guarantees on workmanship and everything else is. Also you might get a better deal if you go through a "preferred" shop. My insurance has a list of preferred shops and will offer you a better deal either on your deductible or on your rate increase (if any) if you agree to use one of their preferred shops.

shop around different body shops like he said ^. It wasn't like you hit someone so your rates shouldnt go up so much. My mom was in an accident in her brand new week old 06 rav 4 2000k i damage and the insurance went up about 40 bucks on geico and it was her fault.
well a rav 4 and a cobalt are a big difference id say it will go up substancially you might be in some trouble
No I went to a family body shop along with a few others; the family one ended up being the cheapest. I didn't even bother with my dealer. I know I'm not getting screwed. The labor is a little higher, but they are getting me the parts cheaper and they do an amazing job, so whatever. I'm getting a rental car too (bet it will be a cobalt, it's from enterprise). Thanks for all the replies, it is appreciated!! I will just miss my little SS...it's going to be a lot different driving the base model that I'm sure enterprise will give me...my heated seats will be missed!!!!

I didn't mess up anything else but my car though....and I literally have a perfect driving record (no parking or speeding tickets); the only thing is when a woman hit ME and totaled my old grand am. I was 0% at fault though.
Hoping for the best....
Thanks again!

I had an incident with my old VW where I hit some road debris (chunk of concrete + GTI + 70mpg = WEEeeeeeee). Yes, if I acted quick enough I probably could have atleast tried to avoid it but there wasn't much I could do. The insurance company said I wasn't at fault and my premiums didn't go up, I just had to pay a deductable and that was it.
As everyone else says, be honest, talk to the adjuster and see where it goes. Either way the car needs to be fixed right?
The best thing to do bodyshop wise is to take it to a pre-approved shop the insurance works with. That way it won't get held up waiting for an adjuster to stop by. Once I didn't do this, and then another time I did, worked out a TON better when I did.
