ya if you take it off without having that external power source it won't turn on at all. but run a mini-make a fuse to an empty slot in your fuse box and connect that to the red wire from your interceptor and it will work properly. and the instructions are messed up.

I just piggy backed mine off the power wire for the stock boost gauge. Works fine for me. I've had gauges hooked up that way since I got my car...

Check out my How To...

ya you can do that but i personally don't recommend tapping into other systems as they are designed for what is on them and thats it. but lots of people do, do it without any problems and this is what the instructions say in regards to the external power wire.

5. Connect the 0-5v analog inputs (optional). You will see 3 pins above the main
connector on the back of the gauge as shown in figure 1. The 2 outer pins connect
to the analog inputs. The center pin is for switched 12v power and is not required
for virtually any CAN bus vehicle. The right side pin, when looking at the rear
of the gauge, goes to analog input 1. The left pin is for analog input 2. See
figure 1. Included in the gauge packaging is a 3 wire cable that connects here.
Once attached to the gauge, you’ll see that the white wire is for analog 1, the
green for analog 2. These inputs can be used to read the outputs from pressure
senders, A/F ratio analog outputs, 2 or 3 bar MAP sensors, or any voltage up to 5v
that you want to monitor and/or record. You can scale these signals with a menu
function described below. These inputs are rated for 0-5 volts, with an overvoltage
protection circuit built in. However, running more than 6v into these
inputs for an extended period of time could effect the operation of the entire
gauge, and possible damage it.

it says you don't need it for our systems but through installing a bunch of these i have come to the conclusion that someone wrote that wrong or was on crack because i have never been able to get them to work as they should without removing the jumper and using an external power supply.

I only monitor 4 parameters (well 5 because you have to set it to monitor RPM's to make the shift light work). I only show 2 on each gauge. On the top one I have IAT1 and IAT2 and on the bottom I show knock (for the Cobalts you have to select knock 3 in the setup because knock 1 and 2 won't work) and boost.

Should we address how to set up the shift lights and the annunciator (sp)?
