Interested in a Cobalt SS/SC

Hello, I am a new member of this forum, I right now am trying to sell my beloved E36 M3 that I really liked, just couldn't afford the maintenance and up keeping. I am now putting it on sale on craigslist and looking for other cars that I might be able to buy for the price range. The cars I have been looking for , are mostly all reliable and cheap to maintain, pretty fun DD, and good MPG. I have been looking into the WRX, S2000, 03-07 Accord V6 6 speed, and now come upon the Cobalt SS Supercharged. I want to ask you guys some questions about it because I dont really know anything about these cars. What times do these things do in the quarter mile, 0-60 ETC, I have heard low 14's @ 100MPH whats the best times and trap speeds? Also what kind of MPG do you guys get driving mix driving half city and half highway. What problems do these Cobalt SS have most and is it cheap to maintain? Also if I do decide to get the Cobalt SS I would want to mod it, what kind of 1/4 times and traps do you get with Stage 1, 2 ,3 ETC, and how much would these stages cost from GM? All this stuff would really help me into deciding if to get the Cobalt SS/SC or not . And would this thing keep up and beat my E36 M3?

Maybe not 0-60 but in a roll the SS/SC would be very close. You should be able to see an easy 250 to the wheels with a few mods making it quicker than your old car. Should be able to maintain high 20's with a heavier foot. The quarter times are all going to be about the launch and good tires, make sure you have one with the G85 option so it has a LSD.

Sorry but that's about the extent of my knowledge of the SS/SC you asked about, no idea on what times it would run in the quarter under different mods.

Dang 250 hp to the wheels easily?, thats a lot giving its a 2900lb car, and that my car that weighs 300 pounds more , doubt even has 230WHP with my mods. High 20's for MPG is great I barely reach 23-25 on my M3 while not having a heavy foot and babying it. Yes FWD does suck from launch and if I do go Cobalt SS route I would defenitely look for the LSD, thanks for the comment!

You can always spring for the 08+ lnf, can easily have one sitting at 300hp with maybe 1k in mods, the lsj you kinda have to approach with a plan lmao

+1 on the lnf. Would look into that But the ss/sc is also fun. 0-60 in about 5-5.5 with a good launch. 250+whp with boltons and tune. I would take a look at zzperformance for a good look at mod prices. Intercooler pumps go bad 100$ from zzp. Other than that its pretty reliable. Will be cheaper to maintain than the other cars your looking at. Its a chevy econo box so dont expect a luxury interior but in its class range its a great car. Ive got an 07 and I love it 30mpg easily. 1/4 13s and 14s.

Some people get 34-37 mpg hwy from their lsj. There are fun...easy to mod....great down low torque thx to the s/c....a stage 2, if not mistaken so correct me if I am wrong, can pull a stock lnf. So I think a stage 3 lsj would be perfect for DD for you. Maintenance is not bad at all. Its easy and cheap. Oil changes on ecotecs are the easiest. Engine are great...there are modded LSJ up in the 200ks. Only issue is obviously the interior is not high quality and the are alot of rattles, squeaks and noises. If that do not bother you then you are good to go.

i get 21-35 mpg depending on various factors
forget gm stage kits, they are too expensive for about 3-500 bucks you can do astage 2 from a better parts vendor and make around 250 whp

a good driver can hit a 14 1/4 on a stock car, a great driver on a stage 2 can hit high 12's. easier said than done for sure.

a few thousand put into the right modifications will yield well over 300whp, and a simple turbo swap (3-5k) will yield ~400whp numbers. but yes it is easier to make 300+ on an lnf, but i'm assuming you want an LSJ for the price difference.

i think you will find that most people that own an SS absolutely love it, it is such a fun car to drive once you can get past the sport suspension's rough ride.

How much would stage 2 and or 3 cost from GM I'm just curious, I have heard the inf hit high 13s in the quarter mile and trap around 103 mph which is really good! What's stock times you guys seeing from the inf, and what's the price differance from the inf and LSJ, and 21-35MPG is really good especially for how fast it is!

ok before you get reamed out its LNF not inf lmao

ok sooo LSJ stage kits from GM are not worth the $$ you can look at zzp or ottp and see what they offer for "kits"

the LNF GM stage 1 kit is pretty good and worth it from what it hear, but at this point your warranty is most likely up sooo screw GM and there upgrades. Aftermarket is cheaper.

all the info your requesting can be found by googling your questions .. wikipedia has some info that can get u started.

Cheap and easy to maintain? Yes. I'll be surprised if you find a car in this year range as easy to work on (part cost and ease of replacing ****).

You can expect the MPG's to be mid to high 20's. That's with getting on the gas moderately and cruising around.

Full bolt-ons (Intake, Header, Downpipe, Catback, Pulley Down, Larger Injectors) and some cooling mods = Have fun beating most cars on the road

I have the mods I just listed above and can take older WRX's without even trying. Newer ones put up a struggle though and unless they're tuned, won't beat me.

As much as I love my car, I wish I would have spent the extra 4k on an LNF. Intake, downpipe and tune will put you at ~300whp.

Yes it will beat your M3.

LNF is awesome.
the accord isn't too bad. my wife had an 04 honda accord coupe v6 6 speed. It was a fun car, it would definitely move (hers was stock), interior was great. not sure if there's a huge aftermarket for it aside from your basics like exhaust..intake.. etc.

My M3 is not stock, it actually takes 02-07 WRX Stage 2 from a roll, my freind has one with 255WHP about 15-20 more than a stock STI, and we are even with me slightly pulling towards 100MPH, and yes the LNF is the better car to get for speed, I will be looking and if I get a good deal for the 08+ Cobalts I will most likely get those.

Don't get too hell bent on an LNF man. They're a tuning nightmare and all the really big power cobalts run turbo LSJ's. And these fellas are right. Throw away the gm stage kits and look into zzps kits. Parts for these cars are relatively cheap wether performance or oem. I love mine. Have about 75k on the motor and she runs like a dream. Regular preventative maitanence will keep it running for a long time
