just got back from looking at a ss/sc

so i saw an ss/sc on autotrader at a ford dealership so i went over to take a look and i dont know what to think... here it goes

me and the salesman go out to the reconditoning lot (cars that havent been detailed or worked on) so there we see it sitting there and i walk up to find tons of scratches ALL over the car, car has been keyed probably 6 times and various smaller clearcoat scratches all around. popped the hood and everything seems ok, belts were in good condition, oil was clear. now i open the door to look at the interior, seats were pretty worn but the leather sucks in these cars and it was an 06 so i would say it is acceptable. but the door bezels (where the window and lock buttons are) were destroyed, i mean im pretty sure edward scissorhands traded it in because all the paint on the bezels was pretty much scratched off and it looked like hell. car has only 35k miles on it, i dont know how someone could **** a car up that bad with those many miles. so we went inside to crunch some numbers and he said that the car would be detailed and inspected tomorrow and the car will look "brand new". i told him i would be back saturday after the detail and make my offer. as im pulling out of the dealership, here comes the car getting in the right turn lane (i was in the left). so i stop to see this car leave and of course he gets on it and when he shifted poof a ball of grey smoke comes out... so i called the salesman and he has no recollection that anybody had drove the car (he said car has sat in same spot for over a week) arggghhh!!

bullet points for the lazies:

-went to dealership to look at car
-scratched up pretty bad. paint 7/10
-interior was good except for scratched up door bezels
-told me it would be detailed tomorrow for when i come back saturday and look brand spankin new
-as im leaving someone from the dealership rips down the road next to me and a shoots a grey puff of smoke shifting to second

starting price is 10,900 only 35k miles. should i take it? what is the highest i should pay for this car?

whew long post, kinda frustrated not knowing if im getting ripped off or not...

This makes me think maybe the car was re-possessed, and the owner, being mad about buying a car he/she can't afford the payments on, er having their car repossessed, since it obviously wasn't their fault whatsoever because the bank wanted the money they loaned out returned them. (Shame on them) hehe
But ya,
sounds like a disgruntled repossesion, previous owner keyed it up bad just before it went...

Im sure not all repos are based on poor economic desicisions of the barrowers....
But I think MOST of them are.

Minor interior flaws (plastics/paint) don't bother me as they are super easy to fix and can be great bargaining chips.

However, potentially nasty mechanical problems (smoke) or an overall vibe that the car has been beaten up and a fairly high asking price = walk away. These cars are plenty common.

Keep looking. It's pretty bad when my car is modded, has 91k on it and sounds like mine is in 100x better shape than that car

If there are no Recaro's in an 06 .... it didn't come with the G85 package . Unless someone swapped the seats out of it . 06's had a problem with flaking paint off the inside door handle and window switch area..... I had mine on my 06 replaced with like 10K on it cause they were almost completely black on the drivers side .

This.

I would be very cautious buying one of these cars used. They are usually de-modded to look stock, and were prob beat on by some little punk. This is not to say it is impossible to find a clean one that is in perfect shape. Thankfully i bought mine brand new, and dont have to worry about that. I suggest you keep looking.

06's are better than the 07's and 05's, don't want to sound like george foeman, but I guarantee it.

When i was looking for mine, i took my time. I figured out all of my necessities and things i for sure wanted, and searched around that.

-polished rims (wasnt getting aftermarket anytime soon)
-sunroof
-heated seats
-not yellow in color
-MT 07
-more importantly...must be G85

That was my list.

If the dealer got it as a trade in they didn't pay more then 5 or 6 g's for it...
I wanted to trade mine in, mind you many more miles, but ext. and interior are pretty good, and they only offered 5 g's.
Guy down the road has a 07...
Mine is a 06 g85, to be truthful, even with less miles on his, and the mods I wouldn't trade..
The rear view mirror is the cheapest piece of junk ive seen...compared to the thick onstar one I have... I personally did not care for the seats or the steering wheel.
But as I said my opinion....
