I understand....but you have to realise....when people buy a 17k car, and right from the get go talk about turbo'ing or s/cing the car.....people arent being ******** asking why they didnt spend the 20k and get the F/I car from the factory.

If you bought the 17k car because thats your choice/budget/etc, and then a year later you have some cash and wanna go crazy....thats different.

but its the pipe dream wannabes in example #1 that deserve the "shoulda bought the XXX" comment.
because (and i think youll agree) if they had the money to afford to F/I that 17k car...they would have bought the F/I car in the first place....

just ask hahn or tag how many people are "gonna turbo" compared to how many actually "get turbo'ed"

i do agree with most of that... personally i didn't get the ss/sc because i needed an automatic, and i got the 2.2 because i felt it would be easier to mod than the 2.4... when the tuning comes out... just my luck...

but yea i see what you're saying too...

So whats the car event that I read here that should be happening soon? I remember a post that said January is the month when all this turbo crap should be cleared up. I just saw the thread that said that said its confirmed but not officially. Why was that closed?

Since I dont have the money and need a daily driver, I went this route not fastest for track but quick enough for my taste and yet very sporty looking.

a 2.2 + turbo kit DOES equal the cost of an SS/sc
to help refute this and explain why i want to turbocharge my 2.2, ill tell you my situation

in 4th grade i bought stock in AOL with my allowance. I had saved the majority of my money since 4th grade (which is pretty damn hard to do) up until last summer when i bought my cobalt for $13k (yes my parents helped) because at the time all i could afford was $13k. However, i definitely want some more horsepower, so i will be turboing my car. with an estimated cost around $3.5k, rounding up to $4k (for tuning lets say), thats still a $17k car with up to 250HP, or maybe an $18-20k car with +300HP if you get some connecting rods and other forged internals.

in the end, for me, this will be cheaper to do, and i didnt need to keep saving and bumming rides off my friends for another X months while i saved for a SS/SC

please, dont get me wrong because i absolutely love the SS, infact i love all the cobalts....as gay as that sounds i just look at them as different with different strongpoints
the 2.0 is a 4 cylinder beast, the 2.2 is a cheap little pusher (better than a civic , and the 2.4 is a large displacement (as far as 4i goes) VVT engine....i think all ecotecs are awesome, but im sure there are a lot of other people who were in a situation like me and couldnt get a ss/sc or maybe they just prefer turbochargers over superchargers, but still loved everything else about the cobalt...its all in the individual.

at any rate, its not something that should really be argued over...which i suppose is my point in posting this...we should all just help each other out and let each other mod the way we like, and give tips in the process

As far as the whole Honda thing...the point he's trying to make is that people are buying a car with 1 type of forced induction and wanting to take it off and put another type of forced induction on. That's fine and dandy but it kind of makes you wonder why they bought a stock supercharged car. People with Hondas don't have the option of either from factory so they put one on if thats their choice.

That's all he was trying to say.

I completely understand that 100%, the point I was trying to come across was (yes, i used honda civics as a crude example), was people buy base models for the low cost, then spend money in it. ALOT of people you talk to on forums might say they pay for it, but in reality, they dont. So, you can tell, Ive talked to alot of people in person, or on forums that there parents bought them the car, and they want to do this, and this, and that, oh, and this......but they simply dont have the money.

In short: I was defending the base model people, and was saying that alot of people lie about paying for there cars!

That was good. I was going to find you and smack you upside the head. Then I read it and started laughing. That was totally worth it.

You know what I heard. I heard that Nissan is going to do a twin turbo on the 350 z for 2008 and GM is trying to put together a twin turbo engine to put in the 08 cobalt to compete. but hey it came from a service manager at my dealership so thats pretty unreliable info, although he did show me the email of a news letter discussing it.

Why would GM need to compete wit a car that will cost almost 35k. The Cobalt is a cheap car that will NEVER go over the price of 25k.

The 2.0 engine is probly gonna be the same one from the Sky Redline and Pontiac Solicitice GXP, right? I hope they upgrade it a lil cuz it only makes 228 hp and 248 torque, but thats with rwd. Can anyone guess what fwd would make at the wheels with the same engine?
