Question Looking at a 2.4

So I've had my eye on the SS/TC for the past little while, and was looking to get it, but I am starting to think that it might be a little more money than I want to spend. I am taking a good hard look now at a 5 speed Sport, so I was wondering what any of you guys with the 2.4, either SS or sport, thought of the car. How is it as a daily driver? I know its not going to be as quick as the SS/TC or SS/SC, but does it give you a pretty good bang for your buck? Any major issues I should be aware of? Any little thing that really pisses you off about the car? Or on the other side any little thing that you really like about the car? Any options that are a must?

Just to give you a bit of background, I bought a used '01 Z24 (5 speed) about 4 years ago, and have really enjoyed it, however, it now has 300k kms on it (200k of which were mine), and I am starting to think that it is getting near the end of its life. I have driven the base (rental) cobalt, and have test driven both the SS/TC and the SS/SC, so if anyone has any comparisons, I would like to hear them.

Thanks!

I LOVE my Cobalt Sport and I recommend getting a 2.4 over the TC or SC because if you want you can TC or SC your 2.4 and beat those 2.0's! Anyways, they're a LOT cheaper and you don't lose that much horsepower.

i drove a 2.4 5 speed SS before buying my ss/sc. it was ok but it just felt too similar to the two Jbodys i owned. so i forked over the extra dough for the sc

Definately get the 5 speed. The only thing I hate about my 2.4 is that it's a 4 speed auto.

Well you lose a a lot of HP compared to a TC, nice try though.

If you don't need a really fast car then 2.4 is perfect. 2.2 is too slow unless you do full bolt ons and tune

Hey another Torontonian.

I got a 2.4 5 speed coupe a couple of month's ago. Not as fast as my last car, but no slouch either. A good compromise in these expensive fueling days.

And its gotta be Victory Red!!!

You lose a bit to the SC too , the 205hp rating is a joke , most put 210-215 to the wheels stock.

Ive got 50k on an 06 2.4 SS auto and its the best car I've ever owned at any price. If you liked that Z24 you will love the 2.4, its a world better than the cavaliers in every way. Fun car to drive, quick, and still runs and drives just about like new even at my mileage. I have had some suspension issues and problems with warped rotors but overall a great car. Sometimes wish I would have not cheaped out and went with a SS/SC but I think the 2.4 cobalt is what the Z24 should have been. In fact the last time i had a car that I liked driving as much as this one was my 89 Z24.

I got a 2.4 pontiac g5 gt and i love it. Also you can make the 2.4 almost as quick as a stock ss/sc with full bolt ons and a tune.
