in my base sedan i am just about 30 on the hwy, this will go up as the motor breaks in, but I don't think the SS will get 8 mpg more..
Though, I did regularly get 44 mpg in my 97 saturn sl1 on the highway. I don't know how as it was falling apart, but I could drive for ever on 10 gallons of gas in that thing.

As the others said, those MPG figures are way off. The Cobalt should have the exact same numbers as the Ion Redline. The Redline's numbers are 23 City and 29 Highway.
They are pretty good numbers considering that the engine is S/C and the the horsepower is puts out. I wouldn't be suprised if some people can even do better than the EPA numbers, since it all depends on how you drive.

I agree with wesman, I think if you stick to the speed limit you should be able to get really good fuel mileage. I got 36MPG with my 3.1, so I'd imagine the Cobalt will be able to do well. Of course achieving that kinda mileage occurs very rarely... like in a snowstorm or something when you have to slow down.
