Revise it. I didn't even read past the first 3 letters as I saw how long it was. I throw letters like this out all of the time, or if I am feeling nice, give it to the secretary. Sorry man.

Come down from your high horse.

It doesn't matter what GM car you buy, whether it is even 15 or 50 grand. The fact of the matter is this, the GM is a brand that identifies itself being reliable, valuable and quality.

That said, no matter what you purchase, you are investing into a company that sells its products as reliable and extremely well built across all classes. There is no fine-print or notes that say, warning, an economy class car sucks, in order for you to have a nice car spend more.

Think of why these classes exist in the first place. They have to provide affordable products to all income-classes, and they get to make money. And it just isn't income classes, a lot of people just want a nice compact 4 cylinder vehicle. I don't want or even need a V8 in a small car, why be forced or even think to get one? I don't want a Rolls Royce, I don't need it, so build be a small car that is reliable and works off the assembly line, damnit!

No matter what, a 15K GM vehicle should be just as well put together as a 50K GM vehicle, you see yet? They know and we all know that no matter what car GM puts out, the amount of responsibility behind the wheel and liability involved as the same in any vehicle. Therefor making the case for my point that all GM vehicles should have the same build quality standards.

I honestly don't know how much simpler or clearer I could spell this out for you folks that say, you get what you paid for. I paid for a new car, what the **** else do I expect other than that?

Done.

+rep 1 for RBC! he understands, why dont any of you? for the 10 millionth time, i said that i was forced into buying it and i dont expect A fricking MERCEDES BENZ!!!!!!!! wtf is wrong with you, read the previous posts *******! i think that a base model car should be made with some bit of quality and reliablility! i dont expect leather seats and a navigation system with back up cameras and ****, all i am saying is that i am disapointed in chevy for making the car so shitty!!!!! If you go back to 1993 for example, and buy a base model cavalier it is going to be more solid and made better!!!!!with quality. a overall better car!

it is hard for domestic companies to compete with the japanese cars because they have cheap labor and cheap resources. to make a profit and still compete gm had to cut back on costs and cheapin up the parts and shorten the time spent on each car. I understand it is hard to compete with that, but give me a break chevy!!!! jamming a 10 foot pole up our asses isnt the way to do it!!! what happened to the customers come first, they wouldnt be a company if it wasnt for us!!!!!!! -end rant!

also +rep 1 for pdub, he gets it to, maybe because he also has the ls and realizes how shitty it is? you people with the ss/sc dont get!!!!!end of story, the ss/sc is a nice car, built better, the ls is shitty. so stop telling us that our cars are perfect! now the LS owners are starting to back me up! everyone should write a letter to chevy! even if they trow it out, who cars, at least we tried!

I know. I'm telling you, I belong to F150online.net and that was my first forum, and I'm still there. The Cobaltss.net crowd here is totally different! But I can work with both.

The SS/SC is not built better; they roll down the same assembly lines as the LS one right after another. Do you think those yellow leather seat inserts deaden the rattling?

So many times you've mentioned you were forced into buying this car. How is this possible? I debated my Cobalt purchase for a year and a half. I carefully debated all the cars I was considering and this is the one I chose. I wasn't forced and I can't understand how anybody else could be. In fact I test drove about 6 of them; two SS/SCs, two regular SSs, one LS sedan and an LS coupe, not to mention a couple of G6s and the other couple odd cars I was considering.

Don't say you were rushed, because you're in college and have no spare time. I WISH I could go back to college and live the life of leisure again instead of getting up at 4:40 every moring to begin another 12-hour workday. Yet despite those long days I found time to do all those test drives; I learned in college that fiscal responsibility is important and I didn't want to rush into something as serious as a new-car purchase.

The purchase process itself takes a minimum of a couple hours and there are so many opportunities to back out of the deal. Ever heard of "Just Say NO?"

You live in the NW surburbs where there are about 30 dealerships in your town, yet somehow you were "forced" into buying this one. I just don't get it.

I mentioned in an earlier post that yout letter sounds like something that could have been written for a consumer-ed class, and I stand by that opinion. What car do you really have, a Focus? A Wrangler? A Camry? Its OK, you can say it, we don't mind.

when a person continuously acts like a complete fool, it doesn't hurt to jump...instead of him telling me to eat **** and die he should review what has been said and what led to my comments. unlike most i read the entire letter and all the posts...i could say a whole lot more but i don't need to, it wouldn't make a difference.

what are you talking about with this consumer ed class bullshit, consumer ed class was high school like 5 years ago. i wrote this to state my opinions. if you read the letter, i explain the whole situation about how i was forced into this. they wouldn't give us a refund!!!!they would only give us a credit towards a new car. sorry if i wasn't clear on that.

i had four options:
1)keep the durango and buy a new trasmission......i dont think so
2)get a mazda......thought it would be shitty
3)get an aveo.......is this a joke, thats not embarrassing at all!
4)get the cobalt.
now do you guys understand better? and again, i said i was sorry for being an *******, we are all here to help each other, not argue.

Wow, posts like this ^^^ make me wonder if this forum is going in the right direction. It really is sad to see how different people are online. I know no one would say FTW in real life or even say any of these things to someone's face. Not saying everyone on this forum is that way, but we all know what I am talking about.

Those aren't bad choices considering you're a college student getting a brand new 2007 car. I don't know who's going to be paying for this in the end, but I'm assuming that at least a big chunk of it is from your parents. If you're paying 100%, just grab that payment book and get on in there and trade that puppy in.

Whatever happened to the days when college kids drove beaters? My college car was 13 years old when I got it and had SEVERE safety issues such as no brake lights (the wiring was eaten by mice so I had to manually flash the turn signals to get any taillights at all). I couldn't put anything nice in the trunk because driving in the rain or on wet roads got everything soaked. One day I drove over a stick on the road and the wheel flipped it up and it protruded right up through the floor! But it was MINE and I loved it - except for when my little brother needed it and my parents made me share it with him for various lame high-school stuff - yes, even though it was supposed to be MY college car I was expected to share it with my little brother.

And you don't want to drive an Aveo because its "embarrassing". Wow. Just wow.

I am disturbed about all this bashing from this member, it is pretty sad.
The two problems I have had with my Cobalt were fixed fast and under warranty.
My steering shuddered and the reprogrammed the power steering to give a higher output to correct it and now it is fine.
The clunk noise is two modules that clack together when you go over a bump, they insulated mine and the noise is very minute now.

Brakes are great on this car, it handles nice for an economy car, and it has more up and go than most 4 bangers in it's class thanks to the 10.1:1 compression.

Chevy extended my warranty to 100,000 miles a few months ago, which shows to me they are confident in their products.

It seems like most cars have small recall issues, no matter what the make or model.
Just do not buy the first model year of any new car, let them get most the bugs out of the system.

I am getting 29.5 mpg average, and 37 mpg on long trips.
The car starts every time.
The interior is solid, and I hate leather especially in AZ.

I am sold on the Cobalt, and I am sorry that you are not.

But even Lexus has their recalls and problems.

This is my first 'new' car, I always bought used till now and I am happy- especially when the GM supercharger kit with tuning comes out for the Cobalt 2.2s.

wow, whew, ok where do i begin.... i have had my share of beaters, believe me, first car was a rusted out 1989 plymouth reliant k car, next i had a 1991 audi 100 with 220k miles, then a 1996 bonneville(awful condition, but still ran perfect), then a durango that the transmission fell out of, and now this p.o.s. cobalt.

My parents are jackasses and wouldn't help me get a car after the bonneville. i had to walk 1 1/2 hours to get to work everyday for 2 months because i had no car. finnally i decided that i had to finance a car. my parents had to co-sign for me. i got the durango for $12,000, which is what i financed, the cobalt was $14,000, so i still need $2,000. i cleaned out my life savings of a whopping $1000 and my parents paid the other $1000. i appreciate them for it, it just bothers me that they have bought my brother three camaros, and a silverado. he never had to pay a dime or finance anything, is that fair?!?!?!? but now i am screwed.

seriously guys, i am just saying that i hate it and think it is shitty, those are my opinions, if you guys like the base cobalt then thats great, but dont think i'm a dick for not liking it.

PS: the aveo is embarassing, admit it.

you wouldn't be caught dead driving it!

Why not just buy a different used car then?

I have a 2.2l cobalt, its the equivalent of a 2007 LTZ, but fundamnetally they are the same car. I have abs, but I disabled it. Yes, my car rattle ocassionally, but I have prothane transmission mounts and lowered suspension.

Yes I have locked up the tires before, but I was doing it on purpose, learn to moderate your brakes accordingly, (aka learn the limits of the car)

I dont see how your car can be that bad, my car was voted the nicest car at my high school for almost two years before some kid's parents bought him a Charger R/T

your car looks awsome, i'm happy for you that you won best car at your school and everything, but where i'm from every kid's parents buy them either a sti, or evo, or s2000, or trans am. not much i can do to compete with them. i wish i could make my car look like yours, but it looks like you spent a nice chuck of change on it. i am strapped for payments/insurance and cant even buy myself lunch if i want to.

Trade it in for a nice used car...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1993-...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1997-...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Gsx-A...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-...QQcmdZViewItem

The STi and Supra might be a little bit out of your range (Just get a second job!)... but hell... The Eclipse's would give you money back, AWD, and you'd be faster than pretty much every Cobalt on this site!

thanks, i appreciate you finding those for me. The only word i can use to describe my situation is cluster-fucked. well that really isn't a word, but it describes it pretty well. no one in their right mind would buy my car for $12,000 dollars, that what i need just to pay off the loan. and if i traded it in i am looking at getting maybe like 6, or $7000.

plus the insurance would be the end of me on any of those cars
