IMO it is not the car it is that you can't have the one that you truly want so you blame the Balt. ie Brother has a Camero Silverado. Kids at school have sti, or evo, or s2000, or trans am. When I was a kid wheels were wheels got me from point A to point B. Drove a 72 Chevy Vega for many years and it was a butt ass ugly POS. Sounds like you jumped into something with out doing any research.

Also being embarrassed to drive the Aveo speaks volumes about the person that you are.The other comments again about what everyone else drives also speaks volumes.

You drive what you can afford not what you want.

plus the insurance would be the end of me on any of those cars
My girlfriend's 98 Camry 2.2L cost $5 less for insurance than the 97 Eclipse GS-T with 350whp that we are looking at getting.

You can sell your car for $10,000... buy a well built 2nd Gen DSM (Eclipse or Talon AWD or FWD) for $8,000~... and your monthly payments WILL GO DOWN... and you won't really be out of any money.

Just post it on AutoTrader.com... hell, list it for $13,000. You never know... someone might buy it. It's worth a shot... worst come to worst you'll lose a few dollars for advertising it.

If you really truly hate it... that's what I'd do.

not true at all, i know that i can't get what i want, i can accept it, thats life. when i get out of college and get a good job then i will get a nice car. all that i am saying is that i am dissapointed in chevy for making this car so crappy. i wasn't complaining about other kids having sti's and stuff, i am proud that i pay for my own car, but i just wish i wouldn't have to blow every dime i make on this p.o.s. if i could go back and do it over again i would get a different car, but unfortunatly no one has made a time machine yet, so i am screwed. i'm not the best looking guy, girls care about looks/car/money. none of which i have. who would they rather date, rich kid in evo, or ugly kid in base cobalt with hubcaps? so you see my frustration?

So, what you are saying... is that you work your ass off to pay for a car... that is a POS and that you are totally unsatisfied with.

I see that your car has a few problems. Let me try and help you. First, how many miles do you have on the car? If you have less than me, you can get $11K for it no prob.

A short backstory that forced me into getting a new car.

I came from a 1969 GTO, which finally blew up at almost 80K miles on a motor that I beat to hell and back. So my standards were set pretty high.

I work 17 miles away from my home, so I had to have buy some vehicle, a bike wouldn't cut it. And I needed one NOW. I borrowed my parents van for 1 week while I searched for a new car that was 5K or less, and used. So I found a 1998 Firebird that the lowest the owner would go was 5500, so I couldn't get it. I finally settled on a POS 1995Ford Exploder at 100K miles for 2000K, my mom said it was a nice vehicle for a guy in college. And I thought that I could save my money for a newer better car. That is the last time I took my mom's advice on buying a car. Always listen to dad about cars.

That thing dropped the tranny 3 times in 4 months, and by the end of the first month had a pretty toast transfer case. 4K dollars later, I said screw it, I'm buying a new car.

After seeing the 06 GTO, I'm a GTO fanatic, in Sunburst Orange Metallic, I decided I would get a car that could have that paint job. I checked the Pontiac and Chevy websites, all the way, and knew I had to have payments of around $275 or less a month. I decided against the G5 because it was the same car, but cost $3K more. So I bought a 2007 LS Cobalt in February, with the only option being automatic transmission, which I am very thankful for. I have 9200 miles on mine, and have had two problems with the car, two broken wheel studs. But of course that was my fault for buying aftermarket wheels w/o hubcentric rings and I forgot to take off the little spacer rings that go around the studs.

Other than that, my car is a champ. I honestly drive the car harder than I probably should, and I have yet to lock up the brakes once, probably since I drive it like I did the 4000lb behemoth GTO with rear drums. That car tought me how to drive.

My car does have a few rattles, but that is caused by the performance mods that I have added, and they are usually drowned out by my exhaust. My manual window cranks are perfect, and do not rattle because I never roll them up or down hard, always a nice evenly smooth motion. And I love the plastic dash, but then again I came from a vinyl dashed GTO.

I do have a small issue with power, but I am solving that with boltons till the GTO is back together.

So that is my story.

My advice to you is to keep the car for at least 1 year, and then trade it in for something better. At the very least, just make your payments and build your credit, so you don't have to cosign next time.

Or follow in my footsteps. I'm actually gonna keep my 'balt till 2010, and trade in for the new highest performance Pontiac on the Zeta platform, hopefully a GTO but it could be a Firebird. At that time, I will be able to get at least 5-7K for my car, since I do take care of the car even though I do hammer a little hard now and again. Maybe put down another 2K on the new car, and get my payments and interest rate down. That will bring the car down to at the very least, $25,000, and I will be able to get at least a 4% interest by then (currently at 7.5%).

Just hang onto the brand new car for now, enjoy it (as much as you can ), build your credit, and buy a better car.

If you are worried about dating girls that only will go out with you because of the car you drive....... well then again that answers my point exactly. Your concerns are more about what you drive and how you think you are perceived by others because you drive a base model Balt and not the vette you may really want. If people do not like you for who you are then are they really the people that you want to associate with.

If you are having so many problems with your car take it back and get it fixed. Keep taking it back make sure you keep all of your paper work. My point is check the lemon laws in your state. If you are having as many problems with your car they will have to refund your money under the Lemon Law.

Hmm I went to the dealership on a mission. I wanted a Cobalt SS 2.4L Auto in Silver. They had one there. I was already working two jobs to afford to drive my 5.7l V8 silverado to school and I hated it, when I need a truck I can use my dads duramax, so I said I'm getting a cobalt ss. I cannot be happier with this car. I love driving to school in it, to work in it, even if I have to work seven days a week to afford it and my quad, I don't care. I guess there is a difference between the base model and the ss but I have no complaints. Anybody that says the Cobalt sucks can suck my dick. I have smoked RSX's, Camaro's you name it and my Cobalt is stock. This car is fast as hell, looks great, and has sweet interior at a good price. I don't care what anybody says the cobalt is a ****** legend in the making.

Be glad you didn't buy an Aveo.

After I flipped and totalled out my '07 SS/SC, the insurance company paid off the loan. I bought an '07 Aveo5 LS. Orange with everything (including sunroof) in a 5 spd. I was sold on the EPA 37 mpg highway rating. I have a 100 mile round trip to work. Plus my payment went from ~$405/month to $252/month on the Aveo.

I'll give the car credit where credit is due.

It rides great, is very quiet inside, it's overall pretty comfortable considering I'm 6'3" and 235 lbs, and came with an MP3 player with Aux input from the factory. Not bad for ~$14,000.

Now the bad.

It has no ***** whatsoever. 0-60 mph is somewhere around 11 seconds. It handles like a 65 Buick Electra. The MPG is way lower than EPA rated. In my normal drive I get ~28 mpg. I got that in my '07 SS/SC. AAMOF, the best I've done is 31.5 MPG on the way home from my parent's house, about 380 miles away. I drove 65 mph the entire way home and that was the best it got. My '04 Pontiac Vibe got 34.2 mpg on that same trip.

I really miss my '07 SS/SC. That was a fun car.

Honestly, I wish I had your car over mine. I'd take a stripped down Cobalt over the Aveo any day now that I know better.

Walrus makes some excellent points in his posts; I won't post them again but they are worth re-reading.

You're in college - you should be concentrating more on your studies rather than this pathetic sob story about how it sucks to drive an embarassing car.

My parents are jackasses and wouldn't help me get a car after the bonneville. i had to walk 1 1/2 hours to get to work everyday for 2 months because i had no car. finnally i decided that i had to finance a car. my parents had to co-sign for me. i got the durango for $12,000, which is what i financed, the cobalt was $14,000, so i still need $2,000. i cleaned out my life savings of a whopping $1000 and my parents paid the other $1000. i appreciate them for it, it just bothers me that they have bought my brother three camaros, and a silverado. he never had to pay a dime or finance anything, is that fair?!?!?!? but now i am screwed.

seriously guys, i am just saying that i hate it and think it is shitty, those are my opinions, if you guys like the base cobalt then thats great, but dont think i'm a dick for not liking it.

PS: the aveo is embarassing, admit it.

you wouldn't be caught dead driving it!
You should have stopped typing before this post. I'm sorry that your parents love your brother more. My kid sister got a Cooper S for High school. I walked a mile to get to my bus. Life's a bitch. Isn't it. It sounds like your parents have helped you out.

You are not getting much sympathy because you are more fortunate than most for your age. There are people well into life that can only afford what you have. I'm about twice your age and still don't drive what I really want too. Because I can't afford it. I certainly don't expect anyone to loose sleep over it. Nor do I thjink GM would take it seriously if I wrote in to complain that my station in life isn't what I wanted. Cause that's what the real compaint is. Whether you think it is, or not.

Chevy's are POS's. Even the Corvette is a bargain sportscar. You do get what you pay for. Corvettes may perform well, but build quality is nothing compared to a Porsche. Your just not going to get Porche performance at half the price without some sacrifises. You have a cheap car with a great warranty. There is nothing wrong with that. It will get you to school, albiet not in the style that you seem to expect. GM has always placed their cars in the market at a slightly lower price point when compared to the "competition". The other similar choices seen nicer because they are more expensive.

Good luck. You are in for some hard lessons. Work hard in school, be diligent and you will get what you want out of life.

He probably goes to UTI - and all the junior ricers there laughed at him when he drove in on the first day with his cobalt LS.

Well, I may sound like a dick here, but I have a few things to say...

1)It sounds like you're complaining because you didn't get what you really wanted

2)I had to start out with a 1983 For Ranger that I had to rebuild the engine to before I could drive it, and I still had to play with the choke like a teenager yanking on his dick in the school parking lot to get it started every day, so nobody wants to hear about "sounds" when you hit speed bumps.

3)Out of 15,000(random number) cars produced/sold, some of them are going to have some problems, maybe even be recalled. You're not the first person who thought they bought a lemon, but believe me, it's not just Chevrolet. My old next door neighbors had a Honda Accord they wanted to see burn in hell, and I thought that Honda was like "ZOMG TEH ****!!!" .It happens.

I love my Cobalt, and I've only had one problem with it, which was the cruise going out which was apparently(thanks to me finding out via this site) my fault, because I used to rest my foot on the clutch pedal. I used to work in the maintenance dept. at Avis/Budget and we had 100+ Cobalts in our fleet, and it was probably the least serviced car(not including from Oil changes) that I saw come through.
Judging from what you said about "Driving a couple years" I'm guess you are only like 18/19, in which case you should feel lucky that you are driving a brand new car anyway. I didn't buy my first new car until I was 21, and that was a base model Nissan Sentra.

Don't fault the entire company because you aren't happy with the car you got "stuck" with. You came to the wrong site to talk **** about GM and Cobalts.

Wow, not really interested in all of the sob stories. Not his fault you had to take the bus. Why brag about it like you are better than him or even anyone else?

Some people are fortunate to obtain possessions. I know I am and am grateful for it.

Yes we all have different backgrounds and have started out differently, but that is not the issue at hand here.

The point of this thread is not having everyone compare themselves and say, "oh i had to build my first car, so you can't complain".

The bottom line is that he bought a car from GM that wasn't to GM standards. Just like any other products, some may make it to lot in a condition different than others and the company putting the product out is responsible. He has a right to express himself.

Am I wrong? Why must everyone get so worked up online? I don't like the way this thread has turned out. Requesting lock down.

thank you pdub for understanding.(maybe he understands because he has first hand experience with the car, just a thought.) anyways you guys need to relax and stop getting worked up about this, i said a million times that these are my opinions, are you not allowed an opinion on cobaltss.net?

no i dont go to UTI, which btw stands for Un-Trained-Idiots. i am a full time student at harper college, and i work a bull-**** job where i make very little money. dont act like you know me and say that i am spoiled, or blah blah blah, you have a new car. the car is unsatisfactory period.

FYI i did mail the letter when i posted it on here, on thursday october 4th i recieved a message from a customer service rep with general motors' home office in detriot. they called me back again today and want me to have it inspected at the dealer for their records, then they are going to call me next week sometime. they said they appreciated my letter, and also said it was well written and that it has helped them bring these matters to attention. since i am sick and tired with arguing with all of the negative people on here, who ever is interested in hearing updates, let me know and i will pm you as i go along. thank you to everyone who has helped me. shame on everyone that has ridiculed me and poked fun at me
