New User, New Owner (soon to be)

Hey guys,

Here's my story, My BMW 87 (my fav car in the world) crapped out on me and my mom refuses to buy another BMW (she has 7). So she went to check out car for me, and here are the one she checked out.

[+] R32
[+] SRT4
[+] Chevy Cobalt SS
[+] Acura RSX
[+] Honda Accord
[+] PT Cruiser
[+] Dodge Neon

I liked the SRT4 and the Chevy Cobalt SS. My best friend has a Dodge SRT4, and although I like it's speed - it's ugly as a 83 year old in a gstring. So I went and checked out the SS, he test drove it - he enjoyed it. So bottom line I want to buy the SS. Now there's a few problems. One (I have no clue what is what about the SS) So I was wondering if you guys could link me to a thread, or a site, or anything that will help me distinguish the good SS from the decent. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Now, I know I'm new to the forums and that by no means is it in my authority (nor is it my place) to demand a bit of maturity here, but please....

As for the information you requested, Ducati, just look around the forums here or at www.*************, do some research on your own via google just like the rest of us have done, read the road tests on Road and Track or Car and Driver or what have you, and enjoy the learning process. People aren't going to be handing you Bimmers here.

By the way, I know that the rest of the fellas here will kill me (and that I've never driven an SS), but maybe--and you sound as if you can afford it--you should stick with expensive cars like BMW. Just kidding. Make your own decisions.

-edit-

I see that you're from Glendale. I know that there are many dealerships in your area, as I happen to have purchased my vehicle from Team Chevrolet/Hummer in Pasadena. From what you've said so far, I assume that you are Armenian... all the dealers there speak the language. Go test drive one ASAP.

hey the cobalt ss is a really good car, my friend test drove a SRT4 and a SS S/C for me too cuz I didnt have my license yet, sitting in the passenger site and listening to the system in the SS was far more exciting then the boring stuff the SRT4 has, the interior isnt 1/3 as good. The srt4 did have a big more speed but still I liked the cobalt alot more

Ok, so thanks to the only person who actually read my post. I was trying to avoid car and driver. Although I've read the reviews, but honostly how much can a 1time test drive tell me about a car, as opposed to someone who's owned it for 4-5 thousand miles? I just thought you guys would be able to tell me the pros and cons. I read the thread about the known problems - most seem minimal which is good, but anything else out there?

Edit - I am Armenian; though I am far from the typical. I wear dickies and a metal mulisha hat, and I tend to stray away from Armenian friends.

Welcome from Glendale. There aren't many cobalt's here as you may be one of the first to purchase one. I live in Glendale too and will also be buying one in the near future.

I despise the R32 as well. It has more power (240 I think) than the Cobalt SS, but it weighs 3400 lbs, so it is nt really faster than a Cobalt. Only its AWD gives it an advantage. I'd bet on the Cobalt around a race circuit!

I have also heard really bad things about Volkswagon cars, in terms of them breaking down a lot. My Aunt had a Passat, and sold it aftr 6 months cause it spent more time in the shop then on the road. Plus it is really boxy. It's an ugly car! No offense to any of you R32 fans, but the car is not for me.

Just me, but I'd take an SS Supercharged over that R32 like 10-1!!!!!

Thanks for the welcome, where in Glendale are you? I'm up around the brand park area. I've noticed there's not a lot of Cobalts - but I really want one.
