Is this normal?

This winter it seems my cobalt likes to make a metal on metal Rubbing sound when im backing up. It goes away shortly after it starts and dosent seem to happen when its moving forward. Is that normal for these cars? Ive owned 7 cars and none of them have ever done his.

Yeah, your rear calipers aren't releasing when you let the emergency brake off and now your pads are shot. I have the same issue which the dealer refused to fix. :-( Oh well, such is life.

if it's not your e-brake, it could just be snow melting on warm brake pads, then freezing after you park it. happens to me when it snows alot. if it snow alot and its very cold i actually hear a big bang as the pads and discs break the ice between them. and that is normal.

It happens to me after the brakes get wet, I think its rust build up on the rotors, it stops after I tap the brakes a couple times

Do you park on a hill? I have a very steep driveway that I park on, and I've had 3 Chevys ('98 Monte Carlo, '03 Monte Carlo, '06 SS/SC) and they've all done this. I've always attributed it to cold/wet weather (especially in the morning) and the brakes setting a little too tight after being parked all night.

My brakes do it once in a while when I go to the car wash and once I hit the brake it goes away. But the first time I heard it was like what the f___ . and it happens when sits all night after a good rain. I have to agree its just the slight film that builds on the rotor especially after they have been used and heated and the moisture dries and you hear the momentaty noise and vibration

Its possible, there are a few threads about it... for daily driving its not worth the time or money to do. Unless you auto-cross/road race alot there isn't really a need for a rear conversion. Drums are more then enough in the rear for daily driving

4 wheel disk is Nice though Ive avoided a few accidents Where some one short turns infront of me because of the extra stopping power.

Mine does this when my clutch is cold. Goes away once the car hits about 120*. If i let the car warm up before driving it it doesn't do it.
