O2 Sensor Problems?

2006 Chevy Cobalt LS with a Custom Short ram intake (tryin to get injen cold air)

i went to a muffler shop and asked some questions about exhausts.. i asked him about goin pacesetter header, 2.25" piping, no cat, with a 2.5" core 18x2 resonator, and a 3A Racing muffler and he was talking about an 02 sensor messing up or something.. i dont really know about the sensor so i was wondering what i should do about it?

If i went with that setup would it mess with the sensor? and he was talking about something that can "trick" the sensor to think there is a cat there. Should i go with that setup and change the muffler to a megan muffler? I dont know TOO much about exhausts so plz try to help me here =)

If taking the cat off is bad.. i already have a high-flow cat on it and should i just add in the resonater?

Ill prolly just go my header, high-flow cat, 2.25" piping with the resonator, and i just bought a megan drift spec muffler. Sound good for deep sound?

Thank you for ur time in reading plz help me lol

You have 2 O2 sensors, one before the cat and one after. With out the cat the O2 sensor after the cat will send its signal to the computer, the computer will notice its reading beyond its specs and throw a CEL.

not sure bout fl laws but here to stay legal you must have a cat converter, two 02 sensors (one before and after cat). if you buy a header from a vendor on here then you'll be fine. basically once you get your header you'll just take your stock one off, put the new one on and plug the sensors into the new one just as they were with the stock one. you could get away with just one sensor and have someone with hptuners to turn the second sensor off, but again legality comes into play. taking the cat off will make the car louder but allows for better air flow which increases hp, but again legality.

header w/both 02 sensors, high flow cat, 2.25" piping (no bigger) w/resonater, and i'd go with the megan muff.

that's my 2cents

The rear o2 sensor without the cat will (or should) read 0420. You won't pass emissions in your state without fixing it (if you have a visual inspection you'll fail with no cat body).

Taking the cat off makes exhaust louder. You won't get "deep sound" from cheap exhaust it will sound raspy (ie ricey). You want deeper sound get magnaflow or better components and highflow vibrant cat with 2.5 and under exhaust front to back.

^^agreed. i have a magnaflow 2.5" cat back. deep aggressive tone. w/the vibrant would be nice. try out the megan though first since you're going to have it. if you don't like it then sell it to some riced out civic..plenty of them around.
