Question Octane

Hey im about to get tuned here in the next couple weeks and I was wondering if anyone knew if i pay for 93 octane if Im really getting 93 octane.... i dont wanna get tuned for 93, pay for 93 at some random station and really only get... lets say 90 91 octane.... if im tuned for 93 and the gas i get is less than 93 is that going to give me any negative reactions? I guess my question is how often is 93 octane really 93 octane... im in metro detroit just fyi

yea at the cheap gas stations it is... go with the trusted names like exxon, BP, sunoco, or shell. the big names. i prefer exxon...

some sunocos have 94, or 95 octane. depends on location

never buy cheap gas, you never know whats in there...

Gas stations are required by law to dispense fuel that is AT LEAST whatever they say the rating is. If they dont and they get caught its big fines. I know in NJ at least they state goes around and checks all the time. Always buy a name brand high volume stations anyway, less chance of stale or water contaminted fuel that way dont worry about if youre really getting 93 octane.

Do you worry if your burger is really 1/4lb or if your Coke really is 20oz? stop being paranoid

lol no i dont worry about my burger or coke lmao.... I do know that if a motor is supposed to run 93 and you run 87 it runs like **** and can damage the engine.... also ive only ever seen one truck at any gas station and dont imagine each truck has dividers for 87 89 and 93 octane.... so i was just wondering

The tankers actualy are compartmented, typically 3 or 4 seperate tanks depending on the size of the trailer. Not only allows you to haul a mixed load but does not slosh around as much when you are partly empty, much easier to drive

The station will likely have 2 tanks though - 87 in one underground tank, 91 (or 93 or w/e) in the other - someone wants mid grade it gets blended at the pump.

If you get a low octane tank of gas you'll probably know by the lack of performance and sound of the engine pinging. Could just add a can of octane booster to the tank and hope for the best next fillup.

Only difference is those two scenarios don't risk an out-of pocket expense of thousands of dollars.

Not to be an ass but ignore this advice. Octane boosters do absolutely NOTHING other than waste money. Some have even been shown to DECREASE horsepower.

Before switching to E, I only got gas at Shell or BP. Unfortunately, the only stations around me with E are ones like Kwik Trip and Citgo but they are pretty high volume. There is one Shell and a BP though I just don't usually go near them.

yes i did disregard this advice.... if i was gonna do something like that i would put a gallon or 2 of 110 to boost the octane properly if i ended up with a tank of bad gas
