Odometer reading - how do I...

How do I set it so the general odometer displays the mileage in decimal places? My 09 SS/TC came from Lordstown with 4 miles on the odometer, and I drove it home from the dealership. The main odo displays "14 miles" next to the ambient air temperature. However, the Trip A and Trip B shows 14.7 miles, which leads me to believe the actual mileage is 14.7

Is there any way I can set the DIC to show the mileage in decimal places, or are we going back to the 80s? My 07 Mustang GT shows decimals in both the trip odometer and main odometer.

I don't think you can and not many digital cars do. (mustang maybe like you said)

But why do you need to see the odometer in decimals anyway?

I don't think that will work, my trip resets itself every thousand miles or so.

I used to want to know the same thing, but then i drove mine for 2 years and didn't care what tenth of 32,000 miles i was on. Your desire should fade as the mileage climbs.

It doesn't really reset itself, it just rolls over. It can only count to 999.9 miles so when it reaches 1000.0, it records it as 0.0. As long as you never reset it manually, it will always show you the tenth of mile your on. Its just like the odometers of the old days, 999,999 - 0 miles.

But, I'm with Straussi, who really cares if its 780 or 780.4 miles...

I try to keep meticulous records for the cars, so it just irked me that I couldn't record the mileage down to the tenths like my Mustang.

Umm, tenths of a mile on an odometer is a little crazy for record keeping.

Just my opinion...

Agreed

Whole numbers should be just fine for record keeping purposes. You have OCD or something OP?

OP sounds like my uncle. he drives an M5 so i can understand that when he brings the car in for service he makes sure that there isn't more than 1/10th of a mile more than when he brought it in, but on a cobalt? thats a little ridiculous. just my .02

this is assuming that you never disconnect the battery tho...
the trip meter is not stored when the battery is disconnected. only the odometer and the oil life are

For some reason, the odometer and trip meters will not equal each other after several thousand miles. I have no idea why, but I never reset the trip B meter and it slowly got ahead of the odometer. I accidentally reset it once, so I can't tell you for sure how much it was off by, but I think it was around 3 miles when I got to 15,000 miles.

Trip meters start at 0 again after you roll over 999.9 miles

When its time to change the battery, go to Sears. They plug a booster into the cigarette lighter while they change the battery, don't know why but they did when I had my pickup. Other than replacement, you should not "need" to disconnect the battery.

I always wondered why my trip B kept resetting...

so much for using it to track oil changes I'll forget much too easy if it rolled over already or not haha.
