Oil Change Factors

Some basic stuff but someone asked me the questions...here you go.

Oil Change Factors (fully synthetic):

1.) How hard you drive?
If you race often and create more friction then normal every day driving I would suggest to change your oil more often. For example, if I have 2k miles on my car from every day driving and then I go to the race track over the weekend. Then I do some more driving and I hit 3k. I'll check it and see how it looks. I'll also check it before every track event and after.

2.) How many miles since last changed?
Normal fully synthetic suggest to change it every 6-12k. I never go more then 5k just because I like fresh clean oil in the car at all times.

3.) Did you experiance any engine problems or oil related problems with your car/truck?
If you ever had a oil leak or some type of engine problem I would suggest to change the oil after the problem is fixed.

4.) Did the car sit for any long amount of time?
If a vehicle sits for more then a few months without being started I would suggest to not only change the oil before running the engine but also filling the gas tank with fresh gas. Oil and gas does downgrade over time.

5.) What mods do you have done?
Mainly this goes out to people who have CAI. Cold air intakes let more dirt and grim into the motor, its just fact. If you have a CAI change your oil at least every 5k miles.

Do you just "top off" with synthetic every 5K miles or do you drain it fully?

I never top off the oil inless its low. Never did I have a case where the oil was lower then it should be. I always change oil and filter every 5k miles. Some people would say its a waste but I have a CAI and the engine does not run as clean with a intake on it.

I've yet to see either K&N or Mobil 1 filters for these engines yet, but that's not to say they can't be ordered.

I use the AC Delco filter.

3k is a waste imo. i think thats more of an oil industry standard for themt o make more money. Only case I would ever change every 3 k is if it was a race car that was driven hard every time it was ran. other than that, 5 k is even a little early for a regular driven car but i change it anyway to be sure.

Not if its fully synthetic. Oils like Royal Purple, Mobil 1 fully synth, Ams Oil will last up to 7k+ miles. If you run regular motor oil then yes every 3k miles.

this car is VERY easy to change the oil on, esp. the filter. On the ss/sc it helps to have small hands though, but its still much easier than most cars.
