I believe it should say in the owners manual about the proper break-in schedule and when to first change the oil. Most new cars are designed to run on the factory oil until the first oil change, which would be about 3,000 miles. Depends on the car though - and it you are talking about the SS Supercharged model, it could be totally different.

As for what kind of oil to use, Mobil 1 all the way I believe it even says Mobil 1 on the oil cap, and I think many people would agree when I say it is the best oil out there, especially for the price.

I think most Redline owners were doing it at 3000 miles (5000 km). If you want some reading go look at some redline forums. I found it very useful to learn about this engine.

The 2.0L LSJ engine is factory-filled with Mobil 1 synthetic, and it has the Mobil 1 symbol on the oil filler cap. Probably would be the stuff to use for the lifetime of the car.

it probobly comes with Dyno oil from the factory for the break in, and i didn't change the oil until 3000miles, then mobil 1 all the way from there

I use mobil 1 on any car i've had, just seems a good choice, and never any problems. I would expect to use it on the SS as well.
