Our cars officially suck in the snow

So here in Bellingham, WA we're getting a bit of snow. This is the first time I've had the opportunity to try out the cobalt in these conditions. All I can say is I'm lucky I made it back in one piece. Tried to go out to the store and ended up having to turn around and then couldn't make it up a very small hill. In my old Saturn I never had problems in similar conditions. Every other person that tried the hill made it with no problem, older Acura integra, and trucks, etc. But there I was after like 5 runs at it, low fuel light flashing and kicking myself for ever going out in the first place. Luckily I was able to cut through a parking lot and shortcut the hill.

its not the car. its the pirellis.
they are a summer dry pavement tire and they are a nightmare in snow.

buying winter rims and rubber is essential.

Yeah, don't knock the car. Get some real snow tires on there. Seriously.

I get lots of wheel spin with the snow tires on but i still get up those hills pretty easy.
Just be thankful you're not driving a mini van, those things suck on hills even with winter tires.

I'm buying Winterforce M+S tires and 16" steelies from Tirerack. I have the Winterforce tires on my cavy, and they were amazing! Driving in 12 inches of snow was nothing.

When/If we get snow here this winter... I'll be riding in my gf's Amigo... it's not 4wd, but lowering the tire pressure to about 25psi and tossing some weight in the back should do me fine.

Those tires are like slics in the snow. If I was up north I would definately put some all weather performance tires on the car.

Yeah, I'm sure better tires would make a huge difference but I'll bet this is the one time we get snow this year. Spending a couple hundred bucks for 1 use tires doesn't seem very reasonable.

Yeah don't bother. We got a little bit of snow today too, and just like you, it'll be gone by the evening to never return. Man I love the coast. Anyways just ride it out.

I live at the south edge of the "SNOW BELT in Ohio. Just keep it slow and slide away. Watch out for stupid people! They are more dangerous than the snow.

As it was mentioned, it’s not the car, it’s the 18” summer tires.
You can pick up some cheep HHR, G5, or SAAB wheels on ebay. I have used HHR wheels/tires for the snow

What part of ohio are you from. Im from Portsmouth and i live not even a mile from the river. The snow dosent get to bad here. Every once in a while we'll get a good snow and the balt will be sittin in the driveway but not very often.

I'm riding with my dad to work in his suburban today. It got even colder overnight here so I'm sure there is a solid sheet of ice out there. Not gonna press my luck and chance curbing it.

I know what you mean, the Mr. I have AWD or 4 by 4 so I am snoinvicible. I hate those ********. But I've had the unluckly privilage of riding in a Ford Windstar and RWD Ford Ranger in the snow... and I live on a hill. My dad physically had to ram the Ranger up the driveway....slide back down...repeat process. What a nightmare.

my 2.2 on stock tires was better last year than any other car i've ever owned... i pulled out of my parking spot without shoveling and the trucks were spinning like no tomorrow wondering how the hell i got out... i was extremely happy with the car in the snow...

be very careful.
I live in a climate where winter involves regular trips on pure ice with upwards of 1-2 feet of snow before it gets plowed sometimes.

and i can tell you from years of experience that there is 1 type of vehicle in the ditch more than any other....

And its SUV's and 4X4's

and its because it luls you into thinking the road isnt bad. until you realise 4x4 only helps traction....not braking or steering.

but they never learn....ive seen cars pulling 4x4's out of ditches.....
