Painting Head Cover?

Painting Head Cover?
Hey guys..
Was looking through some magazines the other day and saw some really clean engine bay work as of late.. Alot of guys are painting their head covers on Hondas and such.. I was thinking this would be really nice on our motors.. What's involved in removing the cover, and is it safe to leave it off with the hood closed if you don't use the car? I'm totally new to engine internal things.. I think it'd look really nice in maybe a gold with the part that says ECOTEC and all that left silver.. Mine's a black 2.4..
