I get my mag like always in the mail, "Import Tuner" states a small article about the Cobalt SS Supercharged. and it goes a lil sometim like dis:
.................................................. .................................................. ..........................
CANCELLED FOR 2008
COBALT SS
SUPERCHARGED
General mottor announced that they will discontinue production of the chevy cobalt ss supercharged for 2008; seems like GM executives weren't impressed by the vehicle's show stopping time attack win at buttonwillow raceway last year. The cobalt SS will be renamed to "Cobalt Sport" and the forced induction variant will be dropped altogether. while the Cobalt SS superchraged was a competent and acceptable alternative to a civic or mazda3, it was plagued from theget-go with that tacky rear wing and the so-so performance. it was rated at 205 hp, which beats a civic Si, but many felt that it should have been so much faster considering all of GM's Powertrain options at it's disposal.
.................................................. .................................................. ........................
Everything about that bothered me by this Ass of an editor.
First was the so called reason for the drop of the vehicle was the bad time attack of last year, but if they would have seen or read like I have in 2005 was in 1st place time attack above a Evo lancer. Second was that it stated it to be an acceptable alternative to a Civic or Mazda3. F*CK OFF! I kept up with an STI on the free way doing 150, and after that me and the dude admired each others cars. SO SO Car? Last was the Fact it was relating its performance with Horse power rather then the true power goodness of the Torque, which the car produces a good clean 200 lbs. of it. Not to mention unlike most car companies people are seeing that their Cobalts are actually producing more HP/Tq. then stated. where as Companies like "Honda" would state they have 240hp/190tq "BULLshaT"cause thats all readings from the crank to sell their crud of a car. (NOT TRYING TO STATE A SPECIFIC CAR UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT CAR I AM TALKING ABOUT)

Umm, it says in there that "seems like GM executives weren't impressed by the vehicle's show stopping time attack win at buttonwillow raceway last year." I believe its trying to say that they know it did great at the time attack, but no impressed enough to keep production. Its clearly acknowledging that it did amazing at the Time Attack, isn't it?
But other than that, I agree with everything you say. Those guys are obviously biased.
But other than that, I agree with everything you say. Those guys are obviously biased.
Sorry, but I call bullshit. The Cobalt SS that participated in the Time Attack was actually packing LESS horsepower than most of the cars there (350+/-). Also, the car was NOT packing exotic parts (as some of the cars there were). Everything that the Cobalt SS raced had was easily and readily available to other Cobalt/Ion enthusiasts. And John Heinricy had been racing compact GM's in SCCA as far back as the 1981 Citation X-11.
The car was far from overbuilt, in fact, it was rocking the factory brake calipers and stock sized rotors!
There was so much whining and crying from the other tuners because when you have been at the top of the foodchain for so long, it sucks when an underdog comes along and completely sets you on your face. (and yes, I have that issue of Super Street) Import tuners are suffering from their own entrenched success and it pisses them off when along comes a bottom-feeder Chevrolet with more ass than a weight watchers convention and schbools in the wiley ways of how to go fast and have fun. **** em if they can't take it.
I think you need to get your facts straight before you wheel out a remark like this again.
All the GM folks did that weekend, other than spank the competition, is show what planning and enthusiasm can do. Also, the Delta bodies seem to be doing pretty well in the grand am cup... oh that's right, it's not NASCAR, drift or drag so no one cares.
