Question about rear lights...

Maybe this is a stupid question, since I actually own a Cobalt, albeit only for a few hours now, BUT... when do the inner lights come on? I turned on the lights and looked at the rear and it was just the outer lights. Hmm...?

Example:

That car in the above pic is not running. It is the reflection of the flash on the reflectors of the taillights.

they dont come on the only use for that is looks, and to house the back up lights, other than that they are used for reflectors

Ahh, too bad. That looks really cool with both sets lit up like that. Didn't realize that was just the flash in the picture.

from what i can understand is that the outers are your brake lights the inners are just reverse (white)

BUT now that you mention it, im seriously going to look on how much modding it'll take to make the inners brake lights too (the red rim)

that looks really cool

Yep, exactly what I was thinking. I'm sure we aren't the only ones to have this idea. I'll just wait for somebody to try it first.

My guess is that they wont. Only the outers will light up. Its like the newer cavaliers (03-05) they are the same way, with the lip around the reverse light, just a reflector.

I was thinking LEDs but then i would have to convert the outers too... hmm

maybe a secondary bulb behind the reverse bulb allowing the light to shine through the rest of the housing...

hmm.. must look at a coupe

The inner lights are just strictly for backup lights. I checked it out on mine and only the outer lights come on.

I second that, a set of lite up LED lights would look great, sort of an angel eye for the rear.

If the red is just a reflector on the inner truck lights cant you just drill some holes in the red outer ring and rig up some LEDS to come on with the brake lights, and even the turn signals?

yea the inner light are the require 'red reflectors' that you must have on the rear of a car. they dont actually light up. only the white backup light actually illuminates.
