Quick question on IAT's
Quick question on IAT's
Hey so just a quick question about the IAT's on my LSJ. I have CAI, bad mab headers, ZZP midpipe high flow cat, ZZP catback. I have a wide band AEM gauge and yesterday I just installed the Aeroforce Interceptor since I plan on getting the stage 3 kit from ZZP very soon. And I was reading my IAT's this morning (30° outside) and when cruising it reads about iat 45 & iat2 50/65 then I did a little pull and my iat went to about 55 and iat2 hit 90 and then slowly fell and stayed at about 70. Is that normal for a stock fuel setup? And as long as they are typically within 20° of each other that's pretty normal, correct? and what is the max iat2 you'd want to see 150°? Thanks in advance.
Okay understood. Thanks for the info YellowSC. I was driving home from work today just now its currently bout 40° outside. And once I got into some traffic my iat stayed at 46 and my iat2 showed 86/88. Then I went to the bank and sat at there for a minute and iat jumped to 105 and held there. I left the bank iat2's dropped quickly to 88° and then i did a little 2nd gear pull and my IAT's showed 50iat and 80iat then once I let off the throttle to turn in my neighborhood and iat2 immediately jumped to 95 and rose to 100 and didn't come down for at least 2 minutes( cruising at 30 mph)... I feel like the iat2 should cool down much faster since I was rolling even though I was decelerating.. I did my IC pump like 14 months ago. I know the fluid in the little resivor spins when my key is on. Idk if those temps are normal for oem cooling setup... I think 30-50 ° difference is really high but I'm not even positive on what "normal" is.
seems about normal. with the intercooler (read: intake manifold) being bolted right to a hot engine it will heat soak. while your sitting still or in slow traffic it just pulls heat into it from the engine. couple that with air circulating in the manifold through the bypass valve you will see hot iat2 temps. with normal driving the fresh air flowing into the engine will start to bring the temps down, but going through the blower and a hot intake manifold they will still be warm like they are.
basicly at cruise and in town i dont even worry about my iat temps. only time i really look is after a pull. its something to keep an eye on to make sure your pump is still working.

The key is recovery.... you want your IAT2's to drop quickly after a pull.
A dual pass endplate and opt. B will get you on the path to an efficient intercooling system.
On the dyno, reving to 7750 rpm, my car's IAT2 reach around 145 degrees, but drop back down almost immediately pull after pull.
