Qustion about the inside of my SS/SC?

I was wondering what this is...right below the stereo but above the heat and a/c knobs there's a black strip of plastic about 3 inches long by 1/4 wide...my buddy says its where the cassette player wouldve been if I got one...I thought it was suppose to be another info center for the heat and a/c with lighted info on it...what about it being where onstar would be if I had gotten it??

thats where the heated seat controls were suppose to go. (and where they are on the lower cobalts that have leather) Heres a picture. Onstar is on the miror in most of GM's cars now.

Here is a picture from my car. I have also wondered what it was for as well. I thought cassette tape soo since the faux opening is the exact size of a tape. But I don't think a tape deck is even an option on the Cobalt. I would love to tear it out and get some sort of storage insert maybe.

What nav system is that? Looks like it says garmin.....

How much was it and how do you like it?

I really miss the nav system I had on my carputer in the Alero and I want to pick up a standalone for my Cobalt...
