Radar Detector

Do you guys think that I should spend $170 extra for the Valentine 1? I know its the best but is it worth the extra money? It does come with the hard wire kit tho. The Bel is supposed to be better than the Escort, right?

I wanna order a radar before i get my car so any help would be good. Thanks...

Depends how bad you want one I guess, spend in your budget? I personally like the gauge style ones that go in your gauge pod.

I have the escort 8500 x50 and it seems to have major issues detecting laser. The actual radar detection seems okay with very few false alarms. I have had it about 4 months now, and I can't really say it has saved me yet. The only reason I got it is because I had a bunch of gift cards from christmas and couldn't think of anything else..... I don't think I would spend my own money on it....

^5.... are you talking about "INSTANT ON" radar also.... they hand held guns give off no signal until they shoot someone.
I have been running well above the limit w/o a detector for 9 years now....

I've actually had a law enforcement friend hit me with a laser to test it. NOTHING. But it's true, the laser detection isn't a huge deal because after your notified your hit it is already too late.

I have a Beltronics 995V. Cost about $350, but well worth the money. I get a 2 mile warning on the highway, it warns me even when they are a mile down the road around a corner and I do not get a lot of false readings.

I've used a friends V1 before and it's amazing. It detects radar very far away, and the directional arrows are very handy. Only downside is that it beeps at everything, but that's ok, because on the highway it's nice knowing there is a cop 2 miles down the road. Funny story, a guy in an 07 Civic Si blew by me while I was just crusing up I-55 going home. V1 beeped at me about 2 minutes later after he was out of sight. I slowed from my 85 MPH and sure enough he had been pulled over! I heard the cop instant on him from about 2 miles away! I was sold on the V1 after that.

Radar Detectors

I've used different detectors for 20 years now and they're certainly a valuable tool for REDUCING the number of citations you'll receive.
I'm currently using a BEL Rx650 (or something like that) and it's working out pretty well for me. GOTO radartest.com to read the latest reviews; the Valentine scores well, but overall, the testers feel that the top line BELs' and escorts offer better performance and value.

If I'm on a flat/straight divided highway with two lanes per side............I'll be damned if I'm going to loaf along @ 90kph!! It's F'ing ridiculous.

Get pulled over with detector = ticket and maybe reckless driving depending on how fast.
Get pulled over without = you can talk your way out of it most of the time.

I haven't had a detector in about 4 years, but everyone I always had was terrible at picking up all kindsa bullshit, plus cops have gotten smarter - they only light up their guns when they think they see a guy speeding. That isn't to mention a detector can give you a false sense of security against laser, etc.

Message - paying attention > detector.

I've got the 8500 and I must say I am very satisfied with it. I generally can get an alarm from 1-2+ miles away, over hills with no line of sight. The pop feature is nice too, but youve got to turn it on, because its off by default. No really sure why, it doesnt set off false nearly as much as the K band does.

I think alot of the bastard alarm systems operate on K band now instead of X, I hardly ever get X alarms.

The biggest thing you have to remember is that its not a ticket to go fast, it just keeps you aware of your surroundings.

Wow, that escort 9500i looks nice, but thats alot of flippin money

They all work well. I have a valentine One and love it. Works really well. The one thing I like about the this one is the fact you can order the other face and hide that out of sight so that people behind can't see the lights going off. I hate it when people would follow b/c they saw a radar detector and now they can't.

I have a 995i from Bel...i love it...its a good alternative the the rx-65. The rx-65 is the best out there...had better detection than the v1. Check out RadarBusters.com and they have the skinny on good radar detectors.
