Really thinking about getting an SS/SC
Hey guys, I'm new here. But I am thinking about getting a Cobalt SS/SC. I've fallen in love with them you can say. I really like the look, the power, it just seems perfect for me. Right now I own a 2006 Mazda 3 GT. the car has been great to me, very reliable and the handling is great. However, now I want something that'll fit me more. I want something faster and the SS/SC would be just that. I would just appreciate some info from people here who have them already. Would it be worth me buying? Are they reliable? The problem tho I've had is finding one for sale around me. I live in Bucks County, PA just outside of Philly. I've found a few online but a lot of them are out dated and were already sold. Are they honestly that hard to find now? I know they were only made from 05-07 but I didn't expect it to be this hard. I want to choose the right one but I'm getting impatient because I've wanted one for a while now, and now I can actually buy one. I was looking at an 07 with 70k miles on it listed over $12k but I was told that was over priced because these cars are beat on. I really just want one I can enjoy for as long as I can. Any advice for me getting one of these bad boys? Any would be much appreciated! Especially on how I can find a good source to find a decent cobalt if possible!

2007 is the cutoff for gmcertified.com - you may be able to find an SS in your area that route. A certified pre-owned vehicle would come with an extension of the warranty, and would have to be at or below 75,000 miles.
Good luck in your search,

Smart choice OP.
I had my 06 SS/SC for 4 years/73000 miles and never had a problem that wasn't my own fault. Aftermarket CAI ruined my MAF sensor lol. Other than that, absolutely rock solid. Great gas mileage, great handling, and plenty of power. A perfect DD.
We'll see how my LNF holds up, until then I'll be recommending the LSJ.

They make excellent year-round daily drivers. I've used mine in everything from drag racing to hauling kayaks to campsites in the mountains hundreds of miles away. With routine maintenance and proper tuning/modding, the LSJ is one tough motor.

My 07' has treated me well the past 5 years owning it....
You can't go wrong with an unmolested SS/SC.

I guess you can say I molest my car.... repeated tests/logs, opening her up on a daily basis, etc.

but, my car is maintained to a rediculous degree of care.
exactly. Hell my stock motor would still be running and had hundreds of passes down the 1320 and circle tracks no issues, and when i opened her up motor looked brand new, minus the cracked number four lol. If i didnt lose my meth shed still be running like a champ not the cars fault at all. I blame autometer!!!! bastards

The SS/SC is not the dog/slouch most SS/TC's owners make it out to be.
Most never owned one....
Ignoring speed and such, the SS/SC is every bit as reliable as the SS/TC, and for some owners that's all they are really looking for.... A reliable, fun, & quick car.
Love me 06 SS/SC, very fun to drive (well I guess anything is better than my old 2000 grand am). Reliable too! Bought the car about a year ago with 90K+ miles on it. Kept up with maintenance and only part needed to be replaced so far was a bad ball joint.
2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged 0-60 mph 6.0 Quarter mile 14.2 Top Speed 163mph
Virginia International Raceway 3:20.60 104/114 faster Then: Dodge Caliber SRT4 VW Golf GTI Mk. VI
2009 Chevy Cobalt SS (2.0L Turbo) 0-60 mph 5.7 Quarter mile 13.8 Top Speed 155mph
Virginia International Raceway 3:13.00 76/114 Faster then: Mitsubishi EVO X MR SST Ford Mustang V6
Nürburgring Nordschleife lap times, 2nd fastes FWD ever= 8:22.85 Chevrolet Cobalt SS/TC (2007)
Which is better? Well, if you know how to drive a Turbo, then the Turbo is faster in a straight line. If you know how to keep it spooled up, then a TC is also faster on a Gran Prix track. However, an SC with a stage 2 kit is much faster then a stock TC....so...as others have mentioned....A nice 2005 , 2006 SC for $5-6k less the price....get the sc and HP tune it. Get some new springs, slotted rotors, stage 2 kit and exhaust, you still will have saved thousand of bucks, and have a really fast and fun car. The only reason why GM changed to the Turbo is because of emmisions. Usually a Supercharged car will beat a turbo charged car at top end, and starting power.
If a 2007 cost $13,000 and a 2006 cost $6500......go for the sc!
