Redux: Motortrend SRT-4 v. SS/SC
Redux: Motortrend SRT-4 v. SS/SC
I know the article has been out for a while but Motortrend has the article online incase anyone hasn't seen it and want to get a look.
Road Test: 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged vs. 2005 Dodge SRT4

For being that close (performance wise) I'd definetly choose the cobalt... Lot better style.. and even though it is close to a cavy, it is still its own car... where as the SRT-4 will ALWAYS be a neon no matter what...
lol, yea the thread was on the srtforums a lot too. Seems close to me but i'll take the neon anyday. Just my gay style i guess lol. I finally ran into one of you guys in topeka last night. We talked, guy was cool, went from a couple rolls on the interstate, walked him by 2-3 cars on both. Keep in mind Im slightly modded and he was stock (broke the car in already).
Can't wait till ur aftermarket gets opened up a bit.

It seems as if I know the two only people with stock SRT-4's anymore. Stock vs Stock from a roll or a stop these cars are an even match, period. When it comes to handling the SRT-4 is out classed.
I ran into a guy Thursday night who thought I was just like his ricer friends he was driving a Black SRT-4. He said he heard that I had a SS/SC and he wanted to race. He told me his car was stock.
After 5min of looking around I found that stock ment a electronic boost controller and a CAI.

lol, depending on the type of ebc thats deadly. The cai doesnt' really add power to our cars. Just makes it louder and adds working space in the engine bay. If the ebc was an avc-r or e01 he coulda been holding 18 psi until like 5k then drop to 15 lol. Then again I guess he shoulda had an upgraded wga, so maybe not.
The wastegate was also modded, I didn't feel like going home and getting my SS/SC so I just walked him with my other SS.
Although some of the numbers are obviously wrong (SS/SC 0-100) I think this article was a good comparison two cars same days same tracks and most likely the same drivers.
No matter how much is said or proven SRT-4 guys will never admit that a SS/SC is just as fast for some reason. It can't be Neon pride.................

its close, no mistaking it. but not 'as' fast. so far, all the war stories being posted up about a redline/cobalt ss vs. srt-4 leaves the srt-4 walking the other 2 by a few cars. -shrug- granted, not all things on the net are true, not all articles are written properfly, and the couple videos i 'have' seen, you see the srt-4 walking each.
sorry if i sound a bit asshat'ish, but i love the redline AND the ss...but i just fell in love with my neon after the test drive.
smile on my face each time i get in the seat.

Reviewer two: " Good Idea!!! That will be awesome."
Reviewer three: " Guys...won't that screw the numbers...guys? guys???"

I'm sure that's how it went down...
Actually I think Car & Drivers method for acceleration tests is:
1. Let out the Clutch
2. Foot to the Floor
3. Hold it there until redline
4. Shift
5. Repeat 2 - 4 until out of gears
Given the 2.2 0-30 for the Cobalt & 2.4 0-30 for the Neon, that equates to about a 2.4-2.5 60' and a 2.6-2.8 60' for the Neon (More Torque, smaller tire = less traction).
If you put someone that knows how to launch these cars the times would have been closer to a 14.2-14.1 for the Cobalt and a 14.0-13.9 for the Neon. With 0-30 times equal at about 1.5 seconds, 60' times about equal in the 2.0 region and 0-60mph below 6.0 for both.
It's obvious that the drivers were not trying to get the best out of both cars. 14.5lbs/hp != 12.7lbs/hp.
Vendian: I didn't realize you were in the Phoenix Area. You wouldn't have happened to be up near Dunlap & 43rd Ave last Friday afternoon (around 3-4pm) would ya? I saw a Black SS that turned North from Dunlap onto either 43rd or 51st. Got that thing broke in yet?
