Respect the rims.

Unless the insurance paid for them you would never buy them......

Had a stupid thing happen the other day....hit a wooden pallet...dead on. Absolutely no time for an avoidance maneuver....pitch black...wood the same colour as the road...etc...
Killed both driver side rims and tires, tie rods, front main bearing.....I'll never forget the sound of the 'exploding' wood underneath the car.....

....anyways...all is OK now...but what blew me away was the cost of the rims.....I was expecting $500-600 CDN for each....but nooooo.....EACH rims was $1099!!!! Incredible...my SC has $4500 worth of rims on it!

For what it's worth....the wooden skid was hit square on....absolute worst case scenario.....once the car was fixed I got out the 'ruler' and measured center wheel to center wheel and even diagonal....the collision guys couldn't figure out what I was doing....a testament to the strength of the car: everything was square(all apposing measurements where the same!)....I was very impressed. Strut tower perfectly intact...no stretch mark or cracks.....regrettably I could not take pictures of the rims.....but both looked like PAC-MAN.

Not true. We are not allowed to charge more than what the vendor lists them out for. For example, if Chevrolet lists the rims at $1000 each, it is up to the shop to get a discount on the part from Chevrolet. Different dealers give shops discounts off the list price, but we do not mark it up. Insurance companies are very strict and pretty much control the pricing in the auto body world.

Yeah, it's crazy what OEM wheels cost for any car these days. It's a scam that's been getting worse over the years. I'm amazed that the insurance company's haven't gotten together to put a stop to the "gouging" that goes on amongst the car makers/suppliers.

If it isn't the wheels it's everything else. $700 light pods, $1800 quarter panels, $6000 to paint a car properly.......it's ridiculous.

If it weren't for insurance, I'd have to put a second mortgage on my house to fix a relatively minor "fender bender".

Nuts.
