to rust proof or not

The stealership wants to charge me $595 CND for the rustproofing.
Well, I said, look, $600 is a lot, so they took 10% off.
Still, I find that expensive. Is this the stealership price, is it worth?
My local shop charges me like $100/year and they do that "blown" vaseline-grease thing all over the car, in the doors, heck, it is everywhere in my old car and ZERO rust!
Car's brand new and I plan to keep it for 4-5 years.

They also told me that ANY aftermarket rustproof will void my warranty because oil based rustproof solutions eat the rubber and wires. This sounds a bit odd to me cause I doubt it that a shop would use corrosive stuff...

So, should I go for the stealership? aftermarket?none?

THX

should have gone with a plastic saturn ion redline.
yeah 600 seems like alot if you are only going to have it for 5 years i wouldnt do anything just because i have a car from 96 and it has no rust on it and i have drove it in the rain and snow. if you are going o have the car the rest of your life then i would do it.

I didn't buy the rustproofing, and I plan on keeping my car a long time.

I don't know about your dealer, but mine uses some sort of sticky spray-on crap that attracts dirt, and having a layer of dirt on everything is just going to attract and hold moisture in my opinion. No thanks.

well, what I don't get is the voiding my warranty part. why would i loose the warranty? so many places do these things and they would not exist if the warranty would be voided !

one quick google revealed the following:

"Rust treatments using thick coatings (once called “undercoating”) are also available and are an additional source of revenue for many vehicle dealers. Such treatments can be expensive and are generally not recommended (except by those who sell it). Not only do thick coatings not protect many of the parts a fine oil-based spray reaches, but if improperly applied may actually promote rust by plugging critical drain holes. "

I called and told them DON'T DO IT !

I guess i saved myself $600. Gonna get the projector headlights now !

All of the body panels are zinc coated except for the roof.

Guardrail off the side of the roadway is also zinc galvinized and sees way more weather and salt that your car ever will.
