Which seats???
Which seats???
Ok, now that the performance package will be comming soon, which seats do people like. I'm using the car as daily driver with the occasional country road outing. So I need comfort yet some performance in the seat. I need to check the Saturn dealers here in town and see if any of them have a Ion redline to go sit in them (recarco)
Once you sit in the Recaro seats, you will be hooked. I first sat in a Saturn Ion Redline several months ago now and I was impressed. A few weeks ago I was able to sit a Cobalt SS Supercharged car at our local auto show. It had the standard seats with colored inserts. These seats were quite comfy, but lacked that "lock you in your seat" feel of the Recaro seats. I'm definitely going with the Performance Package on my Cobalt.
At first I was a little dissapointed that the rear seats and doors wouldn't have coloured inserts with the performance package, but now I'm thinking that if I get a black car I won't care anyways. Sitting in all the cars at the auto show, you realize how comfortable a firmly bolstered seat is... I will be getting the performance package if and when I get this car.
Ok, I ordered the performance package today. I went the a Saturn dealer that had redlines there and tried the seats out. I also went to the Chevy dealer that had a leather package sedan in, and tried those seats as well. I really liked the Recaro's. The more I tought about it the better the Recaro's were. They have fabric middles which will be better when the car is sitting out in the sun. I would rather have a rosy A** from my girlfriend than from my car! The color option was not a real issue for me though. I was getting black with black inserts anyway. The one other big decider was that the standard leather seats didn't hold you real well in the seat. If anyone else has had leather seats in a performance car you would know you need all the support you can get to keep you from sliding across the seat when you go around corners.
I thought about that today. I figured to put the LSD in after you would be spending some $. You would have to by the part from Chevy and have them put it in to keep you warrenty. Figure the LSD at minimum $600, to pull the trany and tear it down to put the part in and reassemble and install would be at $1,000. So your total would be $1,600 for it all. The only otherthing I would highly consider if you looking at doing this is make sure the Chevy dealer you take it to has been well trained in the new trany. This is a specific trany for the SS, and typically when you break down the assembly of any trany it never works the same as it did from the factory(unless you have a really good trany mechanic)

I think Zinner was trying to say that the LSD, if purchased by itself, has an msrp of $1350 from Quaife.
I can't decide If I want to drop the extra cash on the package or not.
I realy want the color inserts, but I want the LSD as well.
I guess I don't really know how much the LSD would help in daily driving situations.
I'll probably take the car to the track at least once and I'd love to try out a road course, but it's not something I'm going to do on a regular basis.

I'll definately be picking up the performance option for a couple reasons listed above:
1. Leather Seats suck in a sports car ... they smell nice though
. While not just in a sports car, they burn you while they're in the sun and freeze you while its cold out. The biggest problem I have found is that you'll be slidding around if they're not properly bolstered. While I can't comment about the Cobalts color inserted seats specifically, I know the seats in my Talon and the seats in my friends Supra both don't provide even close to enough support for any hard cornering. As a matter of fact, they barely have enough support for a good hard start from a light, so maybe they're not good examples.
2. LSD is a definate plus for me as I live in Canada. I definately think that it helps during the winter. In any case, even if it doesn't help much in a standard daily driving (Bumper to Bumper) situation, it sure will when i'm pushing it.
The one thing that I think sucks is that they aren't upgrading the interior like they do with the colored inserts. I think it would have looked great to color match those door panels and the rear seat insert portions with the same light gray as the seats or perhaps a speckled approach with black background and the matching light grey speckles.

Who thinks those door panels you're looking for will be available aftermarket REALLY REALLY soon.
I was big on getting the blue inserts in the car but now that I think about it: Recaros rule and I'm going to really appreciate a good seat instead of blue door panels. And the LSD - I've said it before...function always comes first.
LSD & Recaro seats > Colored inserts
My only thing now is the price this adds on. Unless their are some serious discounts on the 25k this will all cost I might start looking to an 04 GTO.
Time will tell.

look at this posting for the combinations: Color combos
The problem I see with the Recaro seats is the mesh "fish net" style fabric used on the inserts. As we build the Recaro seats in our process at the plant we are seeing that we have to be careful not to snag the mesh or "fish net". It seems to be to susceptible to snagging and not as durable as the leather. Face it, the guys buying these cars will no doubt be crawling around inside tweaking under the dash etc... an easily snagged seat would suck!
