small spring found in oil pan... wtf??

dont really know where this thread should be, so mods please move it where it belongs...

i was cleaning out my oil pan and noticed some small metal shavings... have no effing clue where they came from... but another thing that really troubled me was this very tiny spring, it is probably about a quarter of the size of my fingertip... i tried to take a pic..

circled in blue are the metal shavings, and circled in red is the tiny ass spring

does anyone have any idea wtf this spring is for? or where it came from??????

Are you sure it's a spring and not just a coiled metal shaving? I've seen stuff like that in the metal shop... Of course, either way.... it doesn't sound good..

well your engine spins with extremely close tolerances, it's very likely that it is just a tightly coiled metal shaving. at least let's hope so, haha
