So i think i'll buy a cobalt
Hello all! So it is finally time to get a car, and i have found an 05 Cobalt LT with 77k miles on it.
They are selling it for 6k, however, my grandmother is the manager at the GM dealership, so i think i can get away with $4k cash.
Anyway!
Keep in mind that i owned an 07 G5 for nearly a year, and i know it quite well.
I got to take it home for the night (one night only) and ive been looking it over. A lot of the things i see wrong are more asethetic. Of which i can repair quite easily. The radio however was either stolen or the idiot that had it before screwed it up. The aftermarket raido is just laying in there with no support and it dosent even work. Uppon closer inspection, there are a few wires without connections, like they started to splice it, but failed. How easy is it to just get new cables and a new radio.
Also, the power locks do not work, which for now isnt that big of a problem, i dont mind reaching over and locking it or vice versa. Eventually i want to get it fixed, how hard is that?
Thirdly, the only thing im really concerned about is the rear suspention. When i go over bumps, sometimes it hits hard, others, it feels fine. is there a way i can see if anything is actually wrong? also, the more i drove it, the better it got, and i remember that with my G5, when i would start it up in the morning, it felt rough, then eventually got better. Do you think that this car could have just sat there for an extended period of time and just had to be driven?
Any help would be great!
Thanks- Chris

I would run a carfax on it to see if anything has happened to it just to be safe.
as for the car radio...well.... is the original connector in there? or did they just cut it off?
the power locks I would say just something went wrong when they messed with the car stereo or something else.
for the suspension I would say from setting there too long, but if you are getting it from a dealer like you say have them check it over as well. Also carfax it. so that way if it is a lemon you will know or if it becomes one carfax will buy it from you. It happened to me and they bought my car off me. It works.
Hope this helps some.

damn that sucks. You might want to buy a repair manual or ask around to see if anyone knows which colors are what. Who knows what the 5 reports say though unless you guy it. This is coming from experiences. I mean I had it done on my other cars I own. Even my 08 Honda s2000, lol. Thats only because the lemon law in missouri where I bought it is only a year.
But best of luck. Just have the mechanics there look it over to make sure it is a sound car.
