Solstice GXP 2.0l went turbo...will SS follow?
Solstice GXP 2.0l went turbo...will SS follow?
Hey all...
Well the news is officially out from GM that the Solstice GXP will use a turbo set up good for 260hp in the 2.0l ecotec.
Does anyone have any inside information or even just good ole speculation on wether or not the 2.0l SS will switch over to the same turbo set up in the next model year?
Considering this would help with mods and definitely be a big power increase I'd love to see it happen. But I'd also like to see AWD and a better interior.
Yes there are big pluses to the S/C set up and I doubt GM will switch to turbo since they already have the stage packages in the works for the balt but regardless...what do ya think?

Isn't that 2.0 turbo sweet?
20 PSI, twin scroll turbo, VVT, Direct Fuel Injection. It's gonna be a sweet engine. I am sure it's gonna have a hefty price tag.
I hope they put it in the Cobalt SS

I'm sure it will stay right around high 20's very very low 30's price range. I can't see GM charging more since they were so set on pricing the base solstice under 20k (even if it is 19,999 lol).

Maybe the base version but that engine seems state of the art and it can't be cheap. The LSJ is a 4400 dollar create engine and it's not nearly as cool as this 2.0 Turbo.
A lot of people were disappointed with the s/c set up in the cobalt...turbo is what everyone is doing now, not to say one is better than the next but I do think GM made a slight mistake sticking with the S/C when they could have gone turbo from day one.
Personally I'd be happy with either, but it just seems silly to have a chevy s/c version and a pontiac/saturn (sky redline) turbo version.

I don't think the LSJ is a mistake at all. It's a great motor, I will be very interested to see if they unrated the turbo like the s/c ecotec.
If GM gets the S/C'd ecotec up to 245 with the staged kits it's only a mere 15 HP less than the turbo. It won't be that big of a jump.

I'm not saying price cutting drastically but the S2000 and 350Z are big names to beat in the sporty roadster market.

260 WHP turbo I4 is going to definetly compete power wise in the S2000/350Z arena.

looked some things up, this is the expected price per a press release on another site...
"It will debut in the summer and is expected to be priced about $4,000 to $5,000 above the base Solstice"
that sounds alot more feesable...

Pontiac today introduced the 2007 Solstice GXP — a performance version of its Solstice roadster. The new car will be on display at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show. “The Solstice GXP pushes the production Solstice to the next level with a 47-percent boost in horsepower, and demonstrates how GM is working on all fronts to build and sell exciting products for diverse audiences,” said Mark LaNeve, General Motors North America vice president of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. As anticipated, it features a 260 horsepower, 260 lb.-ft. Ecotec 2.0-liter turbo engine. The performance roadster will feature GM’s StabiliTrak four-channel electronic stability control system. It will debut in the summer and is expected to be priced about $4,000 to $5,000 above the base Solstice.
Gasoline direct injection technology helps the Ecotec engine produce more power while maintaining the lower fuel consumption of a small displacement port-injected engine. It produces 260 horsepower (194 kW) and 260 lb.-ft. of torque (353 Nm), making it GM’s highest specific output engine ever, at 2.1 horsepower per cubic inch of displacement (130 hp / 97 kW per liter), and the most powerful production engine in the Ecotec family.
Variable valve timing and an intercooled, twin-scroll turbocharging system are used to optimize the Ecotec 2.0-liter Turbo engine’s performance. It was developed with the global resources of GM Powertrain in the United States and Europe , drawing on expertise from the naturally aspirated Ecotec 2.2-liter direct injection engine used in some European applications and the 2.0-liter turbocharged engines already in production.
