In that regards , it will be either or and not both . You are correct in saying 2006 is the last year for the Ion with its replacement put on hold . So it wouldnt be unrealistic for GM to add a 2.0 supercharged model to the HHR lineup as a 1 year only model , to use up the extra 2.0 SC engines , and switch to the 2.0 T in 2008 . GM did exactly that with the 2006 Grand Prix GT to use up the rest of the 3.8 SC engines from the discontinued GTP . The GP GT will only be in 06 , and the 3.8 SC will be replaced with the N/A 3.9 from the Impala in 2007 . GM is quite predictable on when stuff is gonna change , they almost never will change a engine in between revisions unless their adding a new model ...ala N/A SS with the 2.4 . The cobalt revision isnt scheduled until 08 model year , then is when a engine change would take place if that is to be the case . The other way it could shake down is the HHR simply get the 2.0 T from the get go in 07 , then there would be confirmation for the 08 cobalt .

Guess we'll see .

Does anyone have any inside information or even just good ole speculation on wether or not the 2.0l SS will switch over to the same turbo set up in the next model year?

Considering this would help with mods and definitely be a big power increase I'd love to see it happen. But I'd also like to see AWD and a better interior.

Yes there are big pluses to the S/C set up and I doubt GM will switch to turbo since they already have the stage packages in the works for the balt but regardless...what do ya think?
Don't forget that even though they share GM Performance Division, Pontiac as well as Chevrolet, they are in many ways different Divisions and have different philosophies, engineering, development etc. Pontiac has been fooling with various turbo vehicles for a long time. There is a whole slew of them, the Turbo Trans AM with the GN engine, (I think they made a 301 CI turbo V-8 Trans AM also if I remember correctly-I think it was an NASCAR pace Car around 1981), the Indy Fiero 4 cyl. turbo Pace Car , the Grand Prix GTP S/C-Turbo, the Grand Prix ASC/McLaren Turbo, I think they had a turbo Sunbird, and probably other turbo cars I can't recall. I am hard pressed to remember many Chevrolet turbo cars. The only two that come to mind are the Calloway twin turbo Corvette, and the Corvair Monza Spyder turbo back in the early sixties, though there may be others. So it only figures that Pontiac would go with the turbo versus the S/C, although they dabbled with the S/C some. There is also a Solstice ZOK Turbo 2.0L (which, according to Hod Rod Magazine's June 2006 issue, when modified with a ported head, a different intake, and with Stage II Kit puts out 325 H/P), Club Racer available from Pontiac.

I came from the 2.4SS to the 2.0SS/SC and holy crap.... gas mileage was HORRIBLE on the 2.4 but it was an automatic. anyway, for $45 in premium gas i did about 250km. for $45 in premium gas on the SS/SC i can get over 350km!! i love the mileage in the SS/SC and according to the dealer he said it would be worse. and apparently after you start to break in the engine you suppossedly get even better mileage. i think the biggest diff was just that the 2.4 was auto and this is manual but im lovin the supercharged
