It might not need any balancing at all. When I dropped mine off, I was having them mic all the bearing surfaces for blueprinting and having it balanced. When I went to pick it up they said they didn't balance it, it didn't need it. I was immediately skeptical and major bummed, was going to take it elsewhere. Then I did some reading. On a 4cyl, each throw has a piston/rod 180 degrees out that counteracts the opposite side. And the crank is zero balanced from the factory. That being the case, aftermarket pistons usually come matched within a few grams of each other right out of the box. Rods are the same way. So you might be perfect without even touching it.

Fact of the matter is that I don't care. The eagles are unbeatable in price, and have been proven far past what my build will be. A bit of engineering inefficiency isn't worth getting riled up about for my purposes. This piston/rod combo still weighs less than the twiggy OEM l61 setup, so whatever.

I did my control arms earlier this week and a wheel hub tonight. Everything needs to be greased, but it's coming together. Sadly, no autocross plans for my Cobalt this season since it's still in DS...back to the E36 I go as I contemplate selling the 'balt.

Your timing cover gasket should be fine to reuse, it is metal with rubber strip in it. Only really a problem if it gets bent or messed up in some way. I had mine off and on a number of times. As per the valve springs re you planning on upping your RPM limit?

First time the timing cover was off in 126k so it came off with a new one in mind which means it was trashed.
Several things were done while the head was off so i don't have to do it later but for now, it's staying under 7k hence the shorty headers. Long tubes, cams, balance shaft delete and better rods are in its future. If this engine comes out my other 2.4 I am getting ready will get that.
