i believe you're referring to the revers lock out, and not sure why the ls wouldn't have one

the purpose is so you don't accidentally put your car in reverse while driving, which would ruin your transmission... not sure why the 2.2 doesn't have it

all the manual transmission cars that i have driven lock out reverse while the car is in motion. it will be really hard for someone w/ a 5spd to accidentally put it in reverse. i had a 6spd as my last car and never even came close to accidentally putting it in reverse.

i agree that you would have to be a moron to do that.... but if that's not the reason, than what is it for?

I believe that the reverse lock-out ring serves a mechanical function aswell; it may stop the roation of the input shaft or Float the idle gear for clean engagment. Not sure but I dont see any other reason to have it. At any rate ,the transmisions are completely different as stated above. The SS/SC box is sourced from the Saab 9-5. At least Chevy didn't put the ignition on the lower console (a SAAB thing) the other keys just lay there and make a racket!!!HaHa

Yeah, my ss 24 doesn't have that either. Kinda glad it doesn't - wasn't very pleasant for designated driving experienced "No - you pull the god damn thing up!!"

My old Coug had that ****, it was kinda funny watching the dealer trying to **** with it when I trade it in.

It is there so that you dont put the trans in revers during a slid or spin. You can get the trans in to revers if you have the wheels locked or you are in a good spin and could do alot of damage if you did get it in revers.

Later.

Why would you be going into 4th or 5th in a slide or spin? Why would you be messing around with the shifter anyhow instead of having both hands on the wheel?
I can understand a reverse lock if your R is up by 1st, but under 5th like ours it just doesn't make much sense.
