IMO. if u want a good looking car with a good bit of power. get a Cobalt SS. If u want a pretty good bit of power. get a SRT-4. or if u want to be different. or like everyone else

Drive them both and see which one you like the most. If your looking for a car that you can mod right away with a good aftermarket then I would say get the srt, but the cobalt is going to have some good power parts soon. So the real answer to this question is going to be up to you.

lol if u ask in this forum of course we will tell you to get the balt and the same if you go to the srt forum. i had the opportunity to test drive both, the srt did have a rush to it but as far as interior, ride comfort and luxury it sucked. i wasnt even considering the balt. i test drove it (second gear sold me), lether interior, great factory sound system and an overall great car, but its your choice, see if you can get a chance to test drive it

Drive both. Also depends what you want to do with your car. I like the cornering of the SS. No question the SRT feels faster in a straight line, but the cornering was disappointing and the front end pushed like crazy, the SS has a lot sharper cornering.

Also, take into consideration that the SRT-4 will no longer be manufactuered after 2007. Dodge is dropping the Neon model so therefore the SRT-4 has to go with it. You are always gonna have people tell you what to get, but I agree with the people above, test drive them both and then make you decision.

Your right about the SRT-4. The only reason why the Cobalt turns better is because it sticks and has very little body roll. Other than that the Cobalt has a 42-foot turning circle. That is pretty bad, but it could be worse...

There isn't even a 2006 SRT-4, but there will be an SRT-4 Caliber for 2007.

The turning radius is big, but I like that you can carry more speed into and out of tight corners. I can't wait to get a full day at the track to see exactly how well it does.

No. If you want a fast and VERY easy to mod car get an SRT-4. If you want a nicer interior and still a pretty quick car get an SS. The only way you can tell which is best for you is if you go and test drive both and see which one you like. No point in asking here or on srtforums, make up your own mind.

My previous experiences in a neon include sliding into a telephone pole going 50 mph, so I'm going to say cobalt.

They are both pretty sweet but I would imagine that an srt4 would be cheaper on insurance due to the four doors and the fact that you more than likely will only find a slightly used one. Also remember the srt4 back windows are for looks. Maybe it was just the one I drove but there was no power for the back windows ???? Correct me if im wrong

Mine was all roll down, but I had a highline p.o.s... the srt-4 I was in had rear roll down windows, so I guess you're right.

Well thats just fing retarded. WTF ? Why would you want a car that you had to reach back there to roll down the windows ???? Doesn't make sense. Maybe it gives them more HP to not have power windows in the rear.

Dodge will say its weight or someother BS, probly to save money, cant see how expensive little motor could be. Everyone knows it just retarded, one reason on my list of why i didn't get an SRT4.

well it only takes a 65$ 3.1 smaller pully and smaller off ebay and decent driver to equal atleast speed wise what a stock srt-4 can do so theres your stright line performance right there. But Its still easier to make the srt-4 go really fast as in 280 whp plus instead of the stock 230. The srt-4 has really grown on me the more I've been hanging out with a group of them. I still wish every once and awhile that I had picked one up.

Actually, I was surprised at the insurance rates when I picked up my SS,
They were far lower that the SRT4 but, that car has been out for 3 years, and a lot of them have been wrecked.
Also it is a widely known fact that there are many mods available for them.
Not sure if the insurance companies take that into account or not
My insurance agent told me that the cobalts were such a new car that there wasnt a huge accident history on them YET. Therefore lower rates I guess?

For the OP :
I test drove the neon and the ss and a few others not worth mentioning,
I am a bigger guy at 6'4" and 240lbs and I just didnt seem to fit too well in the SRT
I did like the power but didnt care for the handling the rest was OK .though the shift knob came off in my hand on a test drive. also I am not a big fan of 4 doors.
I drove the cobalt and liked the feel of the car and it seemed to have more room for me inside. Plus I like the leather and sound system.
The bottom line is pick the car that feels right to you , that is all i say
Speed is just relative to wallet size so buy a car you like, just like I did and you cant go wrong!

I might just have to trade in for the new Challenger if it ever comes out cause I really think it is bad ass.

Go with the Cobalt SS S/C, you won't regret it. The Neon looks good at first glance because of pure speed, but then you realize its still just a bug-eyed Neon riding on a 10 year old chassis with a crappy interior and roll down windows. The Cobalt is just a much more well rounded car, its worth the small power difference in the long run to go with the better overall vehicle. Not to mention you can easily get the SS S/C up to SRT-4 power levels with a few mods.

I raced an SRT4 last weekend...2nd gear 20-90 roll and it was dead even but he said his bumper was at my mirror...looked even to me but i was looking straight ahead not to the side. What I am trying to say is that they aren't much faster (if at all) stock vs. stock. They do have a better aftermarket but ours is coming...get the cobalt.
