Thanks guys for all your help. Earlier today I did test drive a SS/SC and I must say I am impressed with how well the car performs. It has great acceleration and the interior is definetley better. The only problem I have with this car is when you look at it from the side its kinda bubbly in the back and weird looking. Anyway I may test drive the Srt-4 or I may not just because plain out its sort of an ugly car and I dont think many people on the street will really know what it is.

Cluch will last alot longer
Alot less problems
Stronger transmission
Stock bottom end will handle 500 HP
I have 38,000+ miles and no problems.

If we didnt have so god damn many newbies around here
clutches will last longer...clutch life is mainly in the driver...though what are stock skittle clutches going at i havent researched it
you have oil that puddles in your intercooler, boost leaks, squeaks n rattles. we have at worst on the ions the intercooler pump wired backwards and weird cold start that is taken care of with a reflash...squeaks and rattles as well
our tranny is a getrag,,,its strong...tho neon tranny (even in the 1st gens) can easily hold 500hp
You have to replace you timing belt at 100k but 60k is recommended due to interfererence style head. We have a for the life of the car chain drive system that doesnt need adjusted
skittles have a 2.4 which uses 3 belts timing, ps/ac, alt. These are like the belts from hell when it comes to tensioning them and keeping them there...i know i had a first gen with the same engine design. LSJ has no ps cause its electric, serpentine belt with auto tensioner...so much nicer
Your stock bottom end is incredible...gm crapped out on our pistons
Its really a crap shoot get what u like the best...I still wish I had a skittle for pure performance...but with the 30k i put on a year the ion is a better car for me...and i got it for 18k
Plus we have GM parts and build books to 1500hp

I just try to be realistic about our cars, ANYTHING can beat anything else given enough time and money
I actually do like the SRT and a lot of cars. I just dont like the constant speed/racing nutswingers, see the quote above it's TRUTH.
Again buy a car you like and you cant go wrong, go check em all out before you buy
I even looked at a Tib (oops). If you buy a car going by other peoples opinions or magazine numbers, you may end up unhappy in the long run.
You know what you like best go see 'em and lay your money down on the car that hits you just right. I dont care if its a Minivan. If it hits you right more power to ya!

AMEN on the weak clutch on our cars Alex,
Seems like it is every other week I read that someone blows one up
How many miles for you with the mods? And do you think it is affecting the longevity of the motor and drivetrain? not ballbusting, seriously asking.
You bring up a very good point. how durable are both of our cars after some modding?
I guess we will find out the hard way.
Sure do wish we had your aftermarket.....
I can sum up this entire thread for the fanboys on both sides(I already said it but I guess I will try again). If you want a cheap, fast, reliable and easy to mod car and don't care about little creature comforts, get the Neon. If you want a pretty quick (average about 1/2 second slower 1/4 mile than SRT-4 although the balt fanboys will tell you different), nice interior, a lot more creature comforts, and a car that feels like it is better handling (less noticable body roll) get the Cobalt.

thats as close to non bias as you are going to get unless you brought it to another forum

Even if I had the kind of money to spend on a car costing as much as an Evo or STi, neither of those cars would even be considerations. I'd much rather buy a real car, such as a GTO or Mustang Cobra, then spend it on a 4-door family sedan with a huge turbo and an enormous wing.

no ... its your opinion that every ricer wants one (not many ricers want GTO's and who doesnt want an M3) why would you pick out 2 cars and attack that, as a group of cars they are better (regardless if the cobalt excels in one aspect over any given one)
its fact that the drive train in those cars/ overall package is better than ours .. regardless of if they are your "style" or not there is a reason that they cost more even if its not evident on the surface
