Post stalling of the motor????

Have a Auto, 2.2. Cobalt and the other day I was Drifting and seeing what i can do basicly in a BIG parking lot and the wheels would spend and then its like the motor shuts off and when it gets back to a Certain RPM it comes back to life..... it does this also if u have it in Nut. and give some gas and put in DRIVE Gear.... SHUTS OFF THEN kicks back on.... it like a 3 sec delay????

Im going to guess its a saftey feature that seems to be annoying in your case. The reason i guess this is i tryed to do a reverse 180 in a cavalier i had that was an auto a year or so ago and the motor just cut off on me when i went to drive.

I did a reverse 180 in my old car. It was tight. It does take a second to get it to go into drive though.

My cavalier used to do that, probably traction control or it's going into limp mode.

Since its an automatic, chances are its the traction control kicking in.

My Cavalier has the same thing, basically when you get the wheels spinning, the T/C comes on and cuts the power. It does it by retarding the engine timing, cutting the throttle, and upshifting the trans to a higher gear.

So when it feel like its bogging down, thats the traction control coming on and spoiling your fun

You should be able to disable it by locking the shifter down into 1st or 2nd gear - an indicator on the dash should come on saying something like "trac off", which means the system is turned off completely and won't intervine.

yeah there are some tricks to get around it. In my car, (98 cavy) I just click the e brake up one click. in newer cavaliers i dont think this works, makes a dinging noise, you know the "your e brake is on you idiot" noise. i have no idea with the cobalts.

I was just going to post that You beat me to it.

Yeah I could do that in my 97 Cav.

I'm not sure about the Cobalt either, I think he should just try it with 1 click and see what happens.

yeah, just make sure u COMPLETLY lock the rear wheels, or ur brakes will suffer.
I've done it so much on my car that the cable stretched out and needs to be re-adjusted!
I like to drift in the rain and snow, saves the tires.

You can't do this in the SS to my knowledge. The car does not allow you to lock the rear wheels with the hand brake.

hmmm well there are a few reasons but the most obvious is this...

You cant take most NEWER auto's from reverse to Drive or neutral to drive with any throttle...

this is so all of the smarty pants out there dont blow their trans.....

as for the motor shutting off.... I dont think it shuts off ... most likely it cuts power until ti feels it is safe from your madness again...

Now I know why they made it hard for people to shift from reverse into drive and do a neutral drop... people like you who ruin their car....
