Stock Auto Trans
I was told way back in 08, by a good friend of mine, and service manager, that the autos in the balts are very tough. He said I would end up killing the 2.2 before I killed the trans. I do not know if this is true, but he has been the service manager for a dealership for over 20 years.
Although to be fair, ive seen them hold up to alot more if you dont abuse the **** out of it. It's primarily the clutch packs that suffer the most abuse more then anything. The torque converters are 4L60E/65E converters which are capable of supporting alot higher torque.
It's hard to say exactly when a trans will fail, im also not certain why the maximum engine torque is so much lower then the gearbox torque. I know that there is some factor of torque multiplication you have to condition through the converter but it should only be on the order of 1.3 -1.5x on a stock GM converter. I wouldnt trust it over 275-300ft lbs without running raybestos zpack clutches and an upgraded chain. Also dont know much about ZZP's transmissions if you do decide to upgrade. I know a local place here in south jersey that does performance FWD gm transmissions on a regular basis, and their trannys are down right stellar. They shift so fast you dont even realize the car went into the next gear, it feels like a continuous motion of acceleration. So there is alot that can be said about how much GM 4t trannys can be built up.
