Here's what you should do:
1. Warm up your car on the big day fully and then go to your local store where you buy parts and buy something like Marvel Mystery oil. Pour the whole thing into the gas tank this will preserve your fuel and also lubricate your engine.
2. Change your oil and filter
3. Drain and flush your cooling system and refill with 50/50 antifreeze/water make sure to use GM dex-cool.
4. Top up your trans, steering, brake, clutch fluids.
5. Wax your car and clean the inside well.
6. Lay down a big plastic where you will be parking your car to act as a moisture sheild to help against rust. Drive onto it.
7. Jack up your car and put it on either jackstand or the less damaging wood blocks so your suspension is loaded, make sure that it is sitting straight on blocks so the weight is disributed evenly as if you where on level ground. If your suspension isnt loaded your shocks and springs can get kinda stuck unloaded, not good.
8. Remove your battery and store in a dry place. If you have a low trickle charger its a good idea to run it on there about once a month or so or at least put it in your car and run it once a week so it doesnt die for about 30 mins.
9.put a bag over your exhaust and air cleaner intake tip or conical air filter to keep moisture and bugs out. snap em tight with a rope or elastic.
10. throw some moth ***** in the trunk and your floor to keep critters out. Leave one window open a crack so your car can breathe.
11. make sure your tires are completely covered so the sun doesnt get to them or better yet remove em and store em in a cool dry place same with your battery. Make sure your battery is off cement or the ground. put it on a 2/4 or on a wood bench.
12. cover it up and once a month turn the axles manually to lube up the gears in your tranny and such, its not a bad idea to do the same with manually cranking the engine, or start the car once a week.
So yea thats what i know, i also did some research for some of the stuff. enjoy!
You don't need to go nuts. I stored my old car and all i did was make sure it was clean and waxed, and had fresh oil in it. I unhooked the battery and left it for 4 or 5 months. I would go out to where is was stored every 3 or 4 weeks and hook the battery up, start it and let it warm up, roll it forward and backward (it was in a warehouse with a bunch of cars so i had a bit of space) and then i would shut it off and unhook the battery again. No blocks needed, and gas takes longer than 4 months to gell so don't worry about it.
It always started perfect, battery never died. Nothing ever seized. Then change the oil again in the spring when you bring it out.
