Supercharged 2.2L concerns

I'm new and couldn't seem to find the exact forum I'm looking for so please excuse me. I have a 2007 cobalt ls 2.2l. I bought a 2005 ion redline for 540$. The motor is not seized but its about to throw a rod it's rough. So I decided why not switch the supercharger to my car. Its a m62 I believe and the ion has everything I'd need to just do a swap. I've priced out a majority of the parts I need from zzperformance. Their 2.2/2.4 supercharger kit to be exact. All said and done with all the parts I'd need and a little extra it'd be about give or take 1000$ for everything. That being said I've also done a little research and keep finding that the 07 l61 can handle up to 250hp. Now I'm contemplating spending $1000 to supercharger my 2.2l for only up to 250hp. (The $1000 includes zzp supercharger kit 750$, bearings and seals for the blower , a wideband a/f ratio gauge and a couple other things). I'm very power hungry that's why I question it. If I can get up to 230whp should I be satisfied with that? Should I even bother wasting my time and money cause it's a simple swap over kit.

Kit + tune, you're adding almost 100HP and it'll be a night and day difference. If you want to go further, you'll need to start sourcing the internals: pistons, crankshaft, sleeves, the works. Really depends on time + budget (+ expectations). $1000 to add this kind of power to a car is dirt cheap.

past about 250hp is when you need to start thinking of internals with the 2.2l. now really all you need to do is a set of rods and pistons, and head studs. this is about all you need for the engine to hold 400+ hp. a quick look shows you can do that for about $1200. now if your running the stock m62 blower, you max that combo out between 275 and 300 hp. is it worth spending all that money to get another 25-50hp over just the blower swap? thats up to you.

if you have a complete lsj car to pick the parts off of you dont need the zzp kit. what the kit does is provide an easy way to put the blower on an n/a car without having to track down all the lsj parts. most people end up buying a blower and a manifold before they realise they need more stuff to make it work. the zzp kit gives you a belt setup that uses the 5 rib crank pulley, injectors, wiring harness adapters, a heat exchanger, intercooler pump, etc. a lot of these things you already have on that lsj. i have done a supercharger swap using all the oem parts and building my own air intake. you can buy the individual pieces from zzp so if there is something for the swap you do need/want, you can get it. but you can do the supercharger swap much cheaper than buying the whole kit from zzp.

I appreciate the rational thinking. You're right I have a full lsj car to pick parts from. A 2005 saturn ion redline to be exact. I was looking to swap the blower to my car and safely boost it for now. I want to get it to at least 210hp with the m62 blower. My cobalt is my daily for now so while I can afford to blow it up i don't plan on doing that. I just want to complete the swap and go from there. That being said. Not having to buy the zzp kit would open up budget for other parts that I need/want. From what I've researched it should be a direct swap with a few minor tweaks here and there.

Not a good sign you already have the mallet out lol. Sharkey covered it all. You have mostly everything there you need to swap. You could probably even make the ION intake work if you got a little creative. I'm not real familiar with the ION intake or if the MAF style is different though. Like Sharkey mentioned ZZP offers pieces parts, like a small inline MAF housing section, to aid in piecing together your own intake if you choose to. One thing I would recommend is to buying 60 or 80#/hr aftermarket injectors instead of using the ION injectors to give you more fueling capacity. If the 2007 is like my 2006 the injectors use a different connector style than the LSJ. Of course you could also rob the connectors from the ION and rewire to accept the different injectors but just a heads up.

Thank you to everyone whose responded so far I appreciate the advice. I took the fuel rail out of the ion and they're lucas 42# injectors. Some thick injectors lol. I messaged zzp and they said the lucas 42# injectors would work on upto a 3.1" pulley on 93 octane. I'd need the ev6 to ev1 extensions which zzp sells but I'm debating if I should just buy 60# now since the fuel rail isn't easy to get to with the blower hooked up. I'm going to swap pretty much everything over and upgrade a few things like the intercooler which I'm going through zzp for everything and I'm adding a wide band a/f ratio gauge.

I'm still using the stock L61 fuel rail but I'm assuming yours should be similar. No problem at all pulling injectors with rail with the supercharger installed. If you have the 42# and plan on staying pump gas hell I would run them. It sounds like this is going to be your daily so probably no reason to go below 3.1" pulley for a while anyway.
